Singultus

the bag that I breathed out and in.

While I was preparing the dog food this evening, I suddenly felt like hiccoughing. At first, I ignored it, but it happened at closer intervals. The hiccoughs that I do are without sound, but it irritates me because I do not know when I will hiccup or no longer. Singultus is the medical term for hiccough, or hiccup. It involves the phrenic and the vagus nerves because of irritation of the diaphragm, but this can be a manifestation of a more toxic disease. So, based on what I learned in school about the first aid for hiccough, I should exhale in a paper bag and inhale I own breath. In a few seconds the singultus is controlled. When I was exhaling and inhaling in a plastic bread pack (my sister keeps the paper bags), my sister got worried because I was not answering her when she was asking how I felt. She also called my son, who hurried and wanted to talk to me. When the singultus stopped, I removed the bag and said, “Thanks, the hiccup is gone”, and they sighed relief. Others have their own ways to control their hiccups. How about you? Is it tried and tested? [Singultus is the second medical term that I have shared here; the first is cephalalgia (headache)]

Singultus comes from Latin, we use the term singhiozzo in Italian, because our languages is issued from Latin. (Cefalea is our term for chephalgia or headache).

@ridingbet And Spanish, just like Italian, derives from Latin. The three languages that derive from Latin are Italian, Spanish and French.

indeed, our terms/words are words that originate from other kanguages. in our Filipino language, many of our words come from Spanish terms, like "bintana" for 'ventana' which means 'window'. even the "silya" which is 'silla' in Spanish is chair in our national language.

won't it cause you to regurgitate water? try the blowing of paper bags and you will find it better than drinking water.

@SIMPLYD yes, as long as your mouth should be covered by the bag and there is not opening or space opening in the outer corner of the lips.

no, i don't drink too much water because it might cause me more fluid retention, so the blowing out and inhaling of my own breath is better, if not the best. try to do it once you have hiccups, and see the result.

it is a medical term, like what LadyDuck mentioned, it came from a Latin word.

I don't really get the hiccups, but I will usually drink a glass of water, though I can't remember if It helps. I will try what you have suggested if I get hiccups, I am glad it stopped yours.
