"“We’ve got to go back to restoring the morality of this country,” ~ Roy Moore On December 12, 2017 the people of Alabama will vote in a special election to fill a vacancy in the US Senate. Survey shows Roy Moore ahead in poll numbers. With Trumps endorsement and support of the GOP, his lead is expected to grow. This particular election is being watch with interest because it will be a benchmark on the loyalty of Republican voters to continue supporting Trump and the GOP despite negative media reporting on the president's performance in office. The last election in Louisiana that was very controversial was in 1991 in the Governor's Election between Republican David Duke versus Democrat Edwin W. Edwards. Edwards won that election since the people did not want a former Ku Klux Klan wizard to be in the Mansion in Baton Rouge. This election in Alabama has similar overtones but with Moore the villain for his alleged indiscretions with the opposite gender.

alleged? How many accusers are we up to now? 6? And they weren't just with the "opposite gender". They were with teenagers. MINORS.

David Duke and Donald Trump admire each other. Now Moore will be the latest addition in this mutual admiration club.

@NJChicaa I was once accused by a female for making a "gay joke". Does that me a villain? Yes since I am from another nation that was once an American territory.

The GOP is absolutely disgusting the way they (the majority) are supporting Moore. So much for being the party of "family values". I mean I don't expect much from DentureDon but the rest of them are absolutely disgusting and I hope they ALL lose their seats in their next election! If Moore wins, it will be the END for the current Republican party as we know it. Hmmmmm. . . maybe that wouldn't be such a bad thing.

@josie_ The red states are the ones with the highest dependence on welfare, food stamps, and WIC. . . yet they keep voting for Republicans who want nothing more than to slash funding to the very programs that keep them and their children fed. Don't even get me started on health insurance for the children who HAD to be saved (no abortions!) Now that you are alive, you can just DIE! starve while we cut funding yet again for social programs! Die of disease while you have no health insurance. We don't care! As long as we can try to cut taxes for the super-rich.

@NJChicaa _Not very intelligent voters. Just observe what a politician running for public office says. If they talk about specific problems and can provide solutions to how they will address the problem. he is credible. But if all he does is trash talk against his opponent or make vague motherhood statements like "Make America Great Again" You should be suspicious.

The GOP preach family values to their middle class supporters but it's actually the party of the very very rich.

Hmm...don't you mean "despite the president's negative performance in office" instead of "despite negative media reporting on the president's performance in office"? I mean the media has no choice but to report what's happening, unless we're talking about Fox News, so if there's "negative reporting" it's because there's a lot of negative to report. I wanted to say this election isn't an actual "benchmark" in the usual sense because Alabama is one of the very "reddest" states of all so we all know it would take nothing short of a miracle for a Democrat to win there. However, the fact that it's expected to be close and that Doug Jones has a chance says a great deal about what a bad POTUS Trump is and what a bad candidate Moore is. The voters of Alabama have an opportunity here to prove they're not the "Stupidest State in America"!

I wrote this tongue in cheek. The discussion reads like an unbiased reporting of an event. But the photo image of a trash bin sign pretty much says it all. I added the Roy Moore quote with irony in mind.

"Loyalty?" Loyalty to what? To 'real people living in the real world?'' or To 'the storybook-story we want future generations to think we really lived in?'

@mythociate Well, he got thrown off the bench twice so I guess some would say he did his job pretty badly... I'm not sure I trust the GOP to launch an investigation if he gets elected. I think they'll do just as they've done with our Predator-In-Chief and suck up to him so they can get their tax cuts for the rich and other parts of their RWNJ agenda through.

@josie_ Again, 'loyalty to what?' Has Judge Moore done his job badly?
The Senate Ethics Committee will immediately launch an investigation.

It's no surprise since they believe whatever Trump say isn't "Fake" news.

Media has it's own views just to make the ratings. They got their own views but they are dangerous because they can manipulate the voters. I've seen the news but don't focus much on the commentaries knowing BOTH media organizations are BIAS to each other's party.

I despair of American politics. I am astounded that a country with s many intelligent people can end up with trump and similar in positions of power

I wanted to comment that at least you don't live in the US but I realized what Trump does affects the rest of the world in some ways.
