Scoliosis really sucks

December 8, 2017 8:11pm CST
I was diagnosed with scoliosis at age 17 in 2009. It's the unusual curvature of your spine and can cause pain and discomfort at times. There is no cure other than spinal correction surgery which can help to straighten your spine to the correct curvature. My doctor said the spine is supposed to be an S shape and my spine is a J shape. Back then, it didn't hurt so much. But now that I'm 26, I'm in constant pain and it's really affecting how I work and live my daily life. I'm starting to form a bit of a hunchback where the base of my neck starts. It's slightly noticeable to most people. I have stretches I can do to help relieve pain but it honestly doesn't help anymore. The pain is in my neck and inbetween my shoulder blades and has recently moved to my ribs and in the middle of my back. I always feel stiff and sore. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being OMG take me to the hospital, I'm usually at a 5 or 6. I can handle it most days. But it's taking a toll on me physically and emotionally. I'm desperately trying to find a doctor and chiropractor that accepts my work insurance that isn't 20 miles away but if I really have to drive that far to have a pain-free life from now on, you bet your back end I'll drive the distance. I miss being as relaxed and flexible as I was at 21. So much has changed with my body in the last 5 years. No good changes, really. Any tips and advice? I greatly appreciate any thoughts, prayers and positive vibes as well.

I am sorry to hear about your condition. It must be very hard on your part to have that kind of physical deformities and also hard for you to feel the pain it creates. I pray that your problem will be sorted out soon and that God will give you miracles.

Yeah, kinda pity at that. Its very sad you can't live comfortably at most times. Better seek a surgery soon to fix your spine. I hope you will be well health and relieves your pain very soon. Pray for you.

I think it is better to consult a Physiotherapist.

I went to highschool with a girl who had it. She wore a brace.

at the time mine wasn't severe enough for a brace but I wish I would have worn one anyway. it's so painful now. I know someone who had the surgery and she says that it really helped her to straighten up and not hurt as much.
