Charity Giving..

I see a lot of posts on a lot of sites for gifts for children. I have to say that a lot of these are suspect. I gladly give to those who truly need it but c'mon...a drone, an updated game controller, fragrance body spray, women's large workout sweats, XBox One, XBox One Headsets, really?! If you have an XBox and games for it I don't consider you a charity case. If You've sold your game console and just want a gift for your baby sister instead of a drone, I'll gladly contribute. Christmas has become entirely too commercial and people have forgotten what "needy" is. I recently sent a card to a sick girl in a coma..her parents envisioned her waking up before (or just after) Christmas and seeing cards from hundreds of people who are wishing her well. That's worthy of my time, money, and prayers. The 8 year old who asked for gifts for his younger siblings and his mom (he wanted her to have a box of her own hot cocoa) is worthy of my time, money, and prayers. Why do people think that cable or a game system is a need nowadays when so many children would just be happy to have their bellies filled on Christmas?!!! I see so much of that. I see moms asking for gifts for their little daughters but in adult sizes. Why does society think that children need dozens of gifts at Christmas? My mom remembered Christmas fondly as playing hymns as a family on piano, guitar, drums, and tambourine and sharing an orange--a rare treat and sometimes accompanied by candy or clothing when her mom had yarn or cloth to make something special. It's a sorry thing when my mother's holiday of joy with nothing but an orange or some cheap candy becomes the day of disappointment for children whose parents have no money for extra things. Shame on us. Shame for capitalizing on a day of love and salvation. SHAME!!!!!

Christmas is now only a commercial holiday. People ask for donations for futile things that they do not really need. We do not exchange gifts among us, we want this holiday to be as simple as it was when we were young.

We do the gifts but nothing costly and the adults do not exchange. I love it when we all sing the birthday song and eat cake.

@dragon54u We are all adults, this is why we decided not to exchange gifts.

People has forgotten the true meaning of Christmas. They only remember that christmas is a month of giving material things. They often forgot that it is a month of giving and sharing things which are unseen and that is love, happiness and kindness to people around.

The sad part about that is that they often think what they are asking for is a necessity.

I only give to special causes now which I am aware of and know that they are genuine.

I like the Salvation Army and give all year long. For Christmas they give children gifts but one per child and they leave it up to the giver to choose the gift.

You are right about Christmas becoming far too commercialised. People are so greedy nowadays.
