The next band I hear from Manchester, England, that I don't like will be the first. I'm serious. So I'm counting down my favorite Manchester bands, and we are at #8: A Certain Ratio. If you remember awhile back, I did a series on my favorite indie record labels,  and #1 was Factory Records, from Manchester. A Certain Ratio, formed in 1977, signed their first recording contract with Factory in 1979. Despite Martin Moscrop (guitar, trumpet) and Jez Kerr (bass, vocals) being the only original members, the band, a unique blend of post punk dance funk, is still at it. (Fun Fact: Former ACR keyboardist Andy Connell is a founding member of jazzy 80's alternative band Swing Out Sister.) (Another Fun Fact: A Certain Ratio was managed by Factory head honcho Tony Wilson. Moscrop worked as musical supervisor on the Wilson/Factory biopic, 24 Hour Party People.) I have linked to the group's second single, "Shack Up." It's a funk-filled, dance groove blast. Enjoy! I had to delete/repost in order to fix You Tube link. (Info verified by Wikipedia)

I never heard of them. Their sound is different than the usual Factory. More industrial sounding.

Yeah, that’s a get-your-feet-moving-and-don’t-stop song. I don’t think I’ve heard this band before. (Boring fact: I frequently invoke Swing Out Sister’s name when I’m playing Putt Putt....)
