Looking for something to stop those late night hunger pangs. Had to many alcoholic beverages and it triggered those food cravings. Sometimes, snacking before bed can actually help you shed pounds; munching on cottage cheese or sipping a protein shake will do it according to Eat This Not That magazine. But there are some foods that you should avoid when reaching for a before bedtime snack . These foods not only tack on extra calories to the end of your day, which defeats weight loss efforts, they can lead to indigestion and a night of tossing and turning. So what is the absolute worst food to down before you hit the sack? Pizza. Specifically, pepperoni pizza. And if you love to add peppers or crushed pepper flakes on your pie, it’s even worse. Here’s why. The spiciness of the pepperoni and the acid in the tomato sauce can lead to a sour stomach, or worse. The combination of fat in the cheese and the acid in the tomato sauce can lead to acid reflux and an uncomfortable feeling of indigestion. In addition, the dairy in the cheese can affect your digestive system. Many people suffer from lactose intolerance which can result in GI issues like diarrhea, gas and bloating. These symptoms will interfere with restful sleep if your up and going to the bathroom. Finally, there has been some studies that cheese can lead to bad dreams. Whether it is an old wifes tale or there is some truth to it, why take the chance. Now, how many of you knew pizza could have such a devasting effect on one's sleep? Have you ever experienced any of these symptoms mentioned in this article after eating a late night pizza slice? Did it affect your sleep? After reading this I for one will remember to refrain from eatting my pizza before bedtime. Hope you found this information helpful and sweet dreams! Source- Eat This Not That Photo- healthline.com

As an Italian, I know that pizza is never something you eat before bedtime, especially pizza with a lot of cheese on it, as you make it in the United States. A little piece of cheese is good after dinner, but not grilled cheese.

@dgobucks226 Too much cheese everywhere, a lot of calories where you do not need them.

@LadyDuck I am one of those guilty Americans I'm embarrassed to say. Don't they eat a lot of cheese in Switzerland?

That is wise advice. I have been snacking at night more - maybe I will reach for protein now

I need a minimum of three hours before I can go to bed and not suffer digestive problems. I have learned this the hard way. For me, it is better to go to bed hungry than on a full stomach.

Good info to have. Anything that is super heavy even like pasta seems like a bad idea before bed.

@dgobucks226 The protein alone is a good thing plus it won't cause acid reflux either.

You aren't supposed to drink caffeine close to bedtime. Late night ice cream is said to add on pounds.
