The horse risks his life and survives

Two things I've vowed never to do are eat at Jack in the Box and buy food at the Dollar Store. The other night, I was out late with a kid client, and we were finishing up our shopping spree at the Dollar Store. I realized I was hungry as heck, but too tired to stop at In 'n Out Burger or heat up frozen Indian food. With trembling fingers, I grabbed a can of "Andersen's" pea soup at the Dollar Store. I wondered if it was made by the real "Andersen's Pea Soup," a famous West Coast tourist stop in Buelton, on the way to Santa Barbara. In any case, this was Thursday night, and I'm still here, so it appears I survived. I'm still not sure whether this soup was made by the real Andersen's or not.

I have no shame. I will buy food from the dollar store if it turns out to be actually cheaper. Here that isn't always the case.

I buy all kinds of food at Dollar Tree and I've never gotten sick yet. I stay away from the meat for the most part

Some of the dollar store foods are legit. They buy the lot that's left...or the labels that went on a bot crooked. Happy to hear you survived.

I enjoyed it But I was too tired to tell if it was the same as the stuff I get when I stop at Andersen's when I'm on the way to Santa Barbara. Stewed 'possum would have tasted good that night.

@JudyEv Hey, maybe it depends on the veggies you surround the 'possum with. Heh.

@TheHorse Well, I hate to contradict you but I doubt stewed possum would have tasted too good. But what would I know? Maybe it is really good.

That's soup? Looks like thick gravy to me . We buy very little food from the Dollar Tree, mostly just get candy, drinks and house things.. but then we usually buy all our food from our local grocery store. We used to buy some snacks, drinks and candy from Family Dollar for years, before they closed last year.

I buy things at Dollar General all the time, some of their own brands are even good!! You have faced the challenge and survived. I found this online Andersen's canned soups are the next best thing to being here and having it fresh

@TheHorse What exactly does the label say about where it is produced? I don't think they can use the name if it isn't the real deal.

@BelleStarr That's what I was thinking too. The label said the HQ was somewhere on the East Coast. But I think of Andersen's as a West Coast phenomenon.

I always buy a few cans of Andersen's pea soup when I head down to Santa Barbara to visit friends on Highway 101. Do you think the stuff at the Dollar Store is the real deal?

We were invited by a friend to go to eat at Andersen's in Buellton and he wanted that we had the split pea soup, something that both of us hate.

Well aren't you a snob! Just kidding. You can find stuff there like dish towels, dish soap, shampoo (for those who don't believe that $10 shampoo makes your hair more fluffy and manageable), etc. It's a great place to take kind clients when you're on a budget. There are always "shiny objects" to be found.
