Favorite Manchester Bands #7 - Buzzcocks

As I've been saying, I have never heard a band from Manchester, England, that I haven't liked, so I'm counting down my favorite Manchester bands. We are at #7: Buzzcocks. Like Joy Division, Pete Shelley and Howard Devoto decided to form the Buzzcocks after attending a Sex Pistols concert in Manchester. Widely considered a punk/post punk group, Buzzcocks also have a bit of a power pop streak. In 1978, Buzzcocks released what is most likely their most popular song, "Ever Fallen in Love." It peaked at #12 in the UK. I have linked to a video from a performance on Top of the Pops. Enjoy! (Info verified by Wikipedia)

@TiarasOceanView - "Buzz" is the excitement of being onstage, "Cocks" is Manchester slang for "buddy."

Hmm.....John uses Martha and the Muffins. You use the Buzzcocks. Am I sensing a trend here? A fine selection. I also love the FYC’s cover of that song (which I first heard on the Something Wild soundtrack; and trivia, their version was produced by Jerry Harrison of Talking Heads). I really think they were far more power pop than punk. Either way, I’d call ‘em good.

No, I haven't. I think the last good album they've made was Some Girls, or Tattoo You.

Pete Shelley's voice is perfect for what they do.

You can't have a Manchester series without the Buzzcocks.

I'm really getting good at saying I Never Heard of Them, but it's true I never have. I looked up what their name means, and they said it's from a headline from a paper.
