My kids are having exam of maths on Tuesday. My wife doesn't know much of maths so she doesn't teach maths to them.
They are in 4th standard and the syllabus I think is tougher than what we used to have in our time.
They are having area, perimeter, conversion ,weight and capacity in the syllabus in this term. These are the topics which we used to study in higher class.
Education is getting tough day by day and its not easy to teach kids these days.
How many of you teach your kids? So you find it tough to teach them?

I did until he was in 3rd grade. But when he got to 4th grade their math really got so advanced they already had algebra and geometry.

I am not good at maths. So my husband will help my son in maths. You are quite right. Today all the school subjects are not easy at all. Not many parents can know how to teach their children. As to me, I am glad that I can still teach my son English.

I do love math but I would not want to teach it.

No, Sir. The syllabus is as it should have been. They are just learning simple basics of an area, perimeter, conversion etc. There is one formula for a square and one for a rectangle which is not hard at all to learn (not mug up) Try and explain them in a stepwise manner. And discourage them mugging up the solution. That's a sure fire way to flunk Maths.
Also, if they have a solid foundation in their earlier years, I assure you that at later levels they will not need your assistance or even outside tutors. I have been telling these stuff for years to all parents that earlier years are formative years. If the kids have solid understanding and base right from their pre-schooling then they are able to self-study and excel in their subjects in later years when it becomes most important for them to do well.
