Poor Pigeons

They are stuck on that tree. Probably cold and hungry. I see them from my window. They have been there for more than an hour. They desperately try to fly away (maybe to find a better shelter or some food) but then they just give up and fly back to the same branch. That branch seems to provide more protection than other branches. I hope snow will stop for them to find something to eat and find a better shelter. You probably can’t see the pigeons or the snow, but nevertheless I thought to include the picture of the view. How is the weather in your place?

It must be very hard for birds in the winter. We don't get snow here and mostly birds don't go hungry. But in our hot summers they like to drink and bathe in our bird baths.

Maybe it's their gathering place. Pigeons do quite well in the winter, they eat a lot of garbage and stuff. I hope they will be okay.

It is. But they do fly more on clear days. And with the snow holding on the ground they find it more difficult to find stuff to eat.

@Madshadi Yes very true. The snow keeps them up in the trees.

Have you also crows in Brussels ? They are starting to invade our cities since a few years and they are tough competitors for pigeons, a lot more smart.

@Madshadi We have less pigeons in my city than in the past. The city has poisoned them several times telling that they were damaging houses. They do damages, but it is not that bad, I have had some that managed to enter in the attic.

Yes but I haven’t seen many where I live. Pigeons on the other hand are everywhere.

@topffer I wouldn’t want them in my attic either but I’m in no way in favour of killing them. What type of damage could they do to houses?

It's gloomy outside and we've been receiving mild rain showers for the past days.

I pity them as they try to fly away but they cannot. The weather here is very warm.

I buy seeds for the birds to put outside in winter. My garden is always full of birds, they know they can find food and water to drink here, even bird houses in my trees.

I always feel so sad for animals in the cold, because most of them don't have warm homes to go home to. There are still birds around here, but most have flown south for the winter. I'm sure that I see the birds in the trees, but those might just be leaves.

There are leaves and nests - I think. It is very hard to see them in the photo.
