Why were you born?

My husband belongs to a number of online photographic sites which often run small competitions and/or challenges among its members. One of today’s challenges was to put up a photo to do with something I can’t remember but the end bit was ‘why you were born’ as in 'what's your purpose in life'. I often get asked for my opinion on the choice of photo or whatever but this time I was asked ‘so why was I born’ – meaning why was Vince born, not me. Well, that was an easy one. ‘To make me happy’ was my immediate reply. To my surprise this answer seemed to satisfy Vince and he has put up a photo of me – with an explanation of course. But it made me think. What was I born? I can’t come up with an immediate answer. I’ll need to think on it. So have you ever wondered why you were born? What is your purpose in life? It’s not really the time of year for such philosophical questions is it?

It can be the perfect time for such a question. Me, I was born to write. It's something I've done most of my life.

It wasn't our decision in the first place, but as we found ourselves here , we have to decide on our purpose.

I feel like I was born to live my days with my beloved husband. Not that his life wouldn't have existed without me in it, but I feel like we were always supposed to be together. And to have our son, where we'd be without him is beyond me.

It is very special to feel that you are exactly where you should be in life, and surrounded by those you love. That really is a wonderful thing.

It's a difficult question, when I ask my husband he says "you were born to take care of me", I could say the same about him, as we live alone and have no children.

@JudyEv Your sons are grown up and they have their independent life. Honestly I still would like to know why we come to this world.

@LadyDuck I think everyone ponders on it from time to time. There doesn't seem to be any definitive answer.

Your answer would fit for us too. We have two sons but they don't really need us now.

I feel I was born to take care of people, not like a nurse or doctor but to take care of them in other ways. But I have noticed that when its time, those people depart from my life and I do not feel I need to be around them any longer, new people show up.

I love your answer to your husband. I really don't know why I was born. The Bible says that before I was born, God knew me. I believe He has a plan for everyone of us.

I was born for the purpose of perceiving the world with my own lenses. To explore all that life has to offer and be able to move forward after a long depressing day and waking up with unbeatable happiness that people will still be there for me and love me no matter what. To love them in return and be satisfied with my accomplishments and be responsible for my morals. Pursue all the plans that was set for me.

No real reason, I suspect. I was the last of four kids. My youngest sister was 15 when I was born and I was the only boy, all just an accident of nature I think.

I think that with me too. Twin sister and brother (exactly) 8 years older. But I seemed to be very much loved once I arrived. I like to think they never regretted the fact that I came along.
