Colorado became the 38th state of the Union right when the U.S. turned 100 in 1876. It is the highest state having many of the peaks of the Rocky Mountains. This is the place where visitors come for mountain beauty in the summertime and great skiing in the wintertime. It has earned the nickname the “Rocky Mountain State”. A most popular resident at one time was Mrs. J. Brown who was the socialite wife of a Colorado mining tycoon and survived the sinking of the Titanic. Her story was made into a Broadway musical “The Unsinkable Molly Brown”. Her home is now museum in Denver. The state’s name comes from a Spanish word that means red or ruddy because much of the earth is reddish. Its capital is Denver and the state flower is the Rocky Mountain columbine. New Mexico was the state through which the Spanish conquistador Coronado traveled, searching for the fabled seven cities of gold in 1540, It was the 47th state to join the Union and its nickname is the “Land of Enchantment”. It was part of the Old West and known for cowboys and cattle drives. It has a heritage of Indian, Anglo and Hispanic cultures. Its name comes from an Aztec word that means place of Mexitli, an Aztec god. The capital is Santa Fe and the state flower is the yucca. Idaho was the 43rd state to join the Union. The two big industries here are logging and mining. It is best known for its potatoes. It has a diverse landscape consisting of sub alpine, desert, granite mountains, fertile farms, lakes, waterfalls, canyons and gorges. It is home to the deepest canyon in North America called Hell’s Canyon 79,000 feet deep. The Shoshone Falls on the Snake River is higher than the Niagara Falls on the New York State – Canada border. The state’s name comes from an Indian name, Ee-dah-hoe, meaning gem of the mountains. Its capital is Boise and the state flower is the syringa. Utah was started by Mormon pilgrims. It got its name from the Ute Indian tribe. The golden spike that completed the first transcontinental railroad line was driven at Promontory, Utah in 1869. It was the 45th state to join the Union. Its nickname is the “Beehive State”. It is home to the Zion National Park. Its landscape includes natural bridges, lovely canyons and mysterious moonscape. Its capital is Salt Lake City and the state flower is the sego lilly. Anyone live in any of these states? Who has visited these states?

I have been all over these states. Been to Molly Brown's house. Seen the world's largest potato in Idaho.

Molly Brown must have been a bit of a character.

Sounds interesting. Cold climates will certainly cause some disruptions due to the cold weather but I'm not omitting any destination because it's time to move elsewhere or at least consider doing so. Perhaps moving back and fourth.

I've probably driven past the Molly Brown House hundreds of times, but I've never gone in and checked it out. I need to do that.
