My part-time temp job is over

I had a part-time temp job this month that involved helping out with the sample sale. The first week involved getting ready for the sample sale. I had to move big boxes of clothing, unpack the clothes inside, neatly fold them and spread them out on tables, arranging them by color, and cashmere/non-cashmere. The second week was the actual sample sale. I had to keep the clothes in neat piles, pick up clothes that fell to the floor and make sure that the piles weren't mixed up. I also helped out customers and offered them bags to put the clothes in, so they wouldn't have to hold it in their hands while looking at other stuff. The third week involved taking all the clothes that hadn't been purchased, folding it and putting it back into boxes and taping the boxes up. Thankfully, I didn't need to carry the heavy boxes back into their storage space. Although, had they asked me to do it, I would do it because that would mean making some more money. The temp job involved moving a lot of boxes, a lot of bending down, endless folding and unfolding of clothes, ripping boxes apart, taping up a lot of boxes... and all that under hot track lights that made me sweat a lot. It was a bittersweet moment yesterday because it was the last day of the job. I was relieved and a bit happy that it was over because it was very exhausting for me. The money wasn't bad though and for only six days of work. Plus, I got paid in cash, which was awesome. On the other hand, it was a bit sad for me because that's it for income coming in. And my days aren't set either. It's back to staying home until something else comes up and trying to figure out how to occupy my time without losing my mind from boredom or dullness. I now have to search for a job, which I haven't done for many months. But who knows if anything will result from sending out resumes? So, far it hasn't lead to anything. This temp job was through my sister-in-law, in the company she works at. They didn't ask for my resume or ask me to interview. They just asked me to do this job, I agreed, did the work and then got paid. Would be great if all jobs were like that where a person was just hired on the spot.

Would be great if all jobs were like that where a person was just hired on the spot. So true, but even if they ask for resume or interview, being connected with the 'good people' is always what works the best. You're left with some money and an experience you can add to your resume, not bad at all. You deserve some rest now, I suppose.

@lovebuglena The retailing business is pretty wide, sure, you would have to apply for a similar job. It would still help me because I have zero experience, at least I could show I worked. I guess you were accustomed with a certain routine and now you're left with the struggle to start from scratch, that's a reasonable reason to feel gloomy.

@sabtraversa The job was physically exhausting but I was occupied and out and about. Now I am stuck at home... on the computer. It can become gloomy quick.

It's kinda been a gloomy day today for me. Wonder why? I don't know if I can put this on my resume... not unless I looked for work doing the same thing. Otherwise, it wouldn't be relevant and help in any way.

Are you signed up with a temp agency?

I got this job through my sister-in-law. I am not signed up with a temp agency. I prefer long term work.

@JohnRoberts Oh really? Didn't know that. Though they only focused on temp work. But then what's considered a long term assignment?

@lovebuglena Temp agencies do or did have long term assignments. I used to get them.

Sometimes those temp jobs are a lot quicker to get. I bet if you looked for something seasonal it would be a good time of year to do that. Best of luck to you!

Thanks. Only doing temp jobs means constantly searching and interviewing, etc. I'd prefer something long term. Of course, that means I need to get back into searching. No long term job will contact me and say I'm hired just like that, like what happened with this temp job.

Wow! That's awesome. You had to submit your resume and interview though, right?

There are pros and cons to temp job. One fo the cons is having to keep searching for work constantly. If I was able to find something (get hired) long term I'd like that more.

I don't think people realize or respect the job of refolding clothes in retail. I hope you find a new job soon.

It's a bit frustrating when you have just folded a pile of clothes and then someone comes to look at it and messes everything up.

@misunderstood_zombie When I shop, I usually try to place the clothes back to the pile as neatly as possible and if I have to take something out from the middle of the pile I make sure I don't yank the stuff so it doesn't get screwed up and become a mess.

@lovebuglena It really is frustrating and a thankless job. I try to be careful when I shop, so i don't create more work.

Perhaps as you worked out so well they might hire you again. I've been permanent work a couple of times through impressing the boss while on a temporary basis.
