Mouse problems

Whether it is a furry four footed beast or the one that goes with the computer, I do not like mouse problems. Today a semi young man whose mother we know tried to sell my hubby a '96 Chevy Malibu for $300, because, he said, it overheated. Hubby opened the driver's door. There were mouse feces on the seat. He said "No thank you." That evidence of the mouse means that it has probably also been under the hood, chewing on wires. Hubby in fact told this youngish man he could probably get the same amount from a junkyard and no one would have to deal with it. Computer mouse problems. After work I was happily playing or working on my computer. The wireless mouse died. A battery problem, I believe. This mouse has always been sketchy about battery replacements. Neither Bob nor I could get it to continue to work with a new battery. If we closed the battery compartment, the light went off, it did not work. We were going out to dinner. We also went shopping. I got a USB mouse. I came home, plugged it in and . . . NOTHING. How frustrating. I was angry and felt defeated. I took it to the laptop and it worked, instantly. I begin to dread replacing my computer. I had tried to shut it down with a hard shut down, and no response. I finally remembered the primary solution to all computers. . . shut it down and wait a little bit. I did that. A hard shut down on the tower. Lo and behold the USB mouse works now. It installed its own software. I have not had four legged mice in this house at all. It could be because of the snakes that live out back. I don't know for sure. Enough for mouse problems for now.

When things do not work it is very frustrating.

I wish I had a snake under this house, it'd be a really fat one in no time .... well, maybe not, I recently read they can survive months without eating anything.

The snakes have not been up near my house, but in the shed at the back and then slinking through the grass. I see snakes and also hawks in the open field in front of me.

We have snakes but based on the mice problem I am having they must be hibernating. The mice I am not able to catch must be getting fat off all the peanut butter and cheese they are eating.

Have you tried putting cotton balls soaked in peppermint oil around any open spaces you might have around baseboards @shaggin ? I know they don't like peppermint. Oh, snakes will hibernate when it's really cold so maybe that's what they're doing.

It depends on what you are doing at that moment. We have had similar. Hubby has actually made the mistake, in the past of buying a car that was mouse eaten.

Once when my mouse quit working a friend gave me an extra one they had. I plugged it in and it worked perfect. I was told by a computer guy on facebook that your not supposed to do that for some reason. He said you shut it down before plugging the usb mouse in. That is disgusting about the mouse in the car. I've had it happen and its giving me the chills thinking about it. Best thing is to not leave food in the car for them to want to get in to get.

This is a rural area, and people will park their "extra" vehicle in a barn or shed. Even without food the mice will eat the wires.Your comment about shutting down the computer seems to have matched my experience.

@GardenGerty Ahh okay I didnt realize it was being kept like that I assumed it was one the guy was driving all the time. I live in a rural area as well so I understand. Everyone gets mice here even in the nicest or homes they find a way in. Part of my cellar is dirt so they come in easily and I have been battling with them for a month. Thats sad for the guy then that mice have destroyed his vehicle and he will get nothing from it now besides junk yard prices :( Based on where I find mouse droppings in my cellar and how they are able to get into vehicles I am assuming they can climb somehow. They sure are adorable but messy pests.

I live near fields. Even with three cats once in a while I know mice wander in to my house.

I have a field across the road. It is patrolled by snakes, and hawks, and owls.

Oh, I agree. I had mice every fall and winter in my other house, in spite of the best efforts of Princess and the other cats. Usually only one, but that was all it took.

Glad your mouse responded. I know what you are saying the last time I attached a mouse to my PC I had to go through the same process. The only thing that I get frustrated about is that sometimes just when I am hot in the middle of writing and I need to check something out that will be the time my mouse will decide it needs a battery change.

Yes the 'turn it off and on again' trick often works, though I don't think anyone knows why!

I guess it gives it a chance to catch up to the situation. It interrupts the glitch or something.

I believe most computers are set to run things on start up where as you would have to go in the settings and manually load the new things in if it was already on. By shutting it off and restarting it then it registered a new mouse was plugged in and installed it.

Sometimes switching off a computer for a while seems to work miracles. If only all its problems were so simple.

Perhaps when we sleep we "switch off" and solve all the problems of the day.
