It is hard to believe that it's already Christmas or Winter holiday time again already! It seems like it was just summer a bit ago. Oh well , time flies as you age so they say. So, do you like this time of year? I do and don't. Let me explain. I do not like - How commercial it is/has gotten How the true value of Christmas is usually forgotten - one need only look at footage from Black Friday I do not have extended family - so it makes me feel like even more of an outcast Everyone (friends) are usually mega/super/ultra busy But I do love other things about it - Baking up old favorites and new treats Eating the yummies my mom makes Getting and giving gifts ( well... I'm honest ) Getting and sending out Christmas cards (Just got a lovely one yesterday from Valerie @just4him - thanks! It's so nice to get something other than ads and bills. Looking at lights and putting out decorations and watching Christmas movies like "Scrooged", "Santa Clause" (all 3), "Elf", "Christmas Vacation", Do you have favorite Christmas movies? What are your least and most liked parts of this season that is sometimes called "The Most Wonderful Time of the Year"? I didn't realize the song is of the same name
Andy Williams - It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year It's the most wonderful time of the year With the kids jingle belling And everyone telling you "Be o...

@amadeo Oh no. I didn't know he was gone. Like Orbison. We need more singers with that sort of talent to them.

I tend to also have mixed feelings about it. The focus is way too commercial and people go way too crazy over shopping. But I do enjoy soending time with the family.

Life is tough for many these days, so I don't know if it is the most wonderful time of the year. There is the pressure to get everything perfect @FayeHazel, and I think it steals much of the joy that should come with the season.

Certainly I hate the commercialism of Christmas which might be one reason I back off from a lot of the hoopla that goes with it.

I've had that song going through my head for a few days now, so why not play it again Especially when I have to agree. Looks like I'm going to need to do a post of my favorite and unfavorite parts of Christmas. At least I have a post to write. Thanks for the mention.

Honestly. I think most have mixed feelings about this time of year, due to losses, little to no family, and money problems - etc. But like you, I love baking, giving and recieving both gifts and cards, and watching christmas movies. The year without a santa claus is my favorite. Then grandma got ran over by a reindeer. And the Santa Claus, etc though not really a fan of SC2 and hardly watch SC3.

@Courtlynn Hmm most of the time that seems to be true, though thinking about it, I sure like "Terminator 2" better than 1

Can you believe - I haven't seen "Year without santa"? I just requested it from the library. :-) That's funny. We are opposites on the SC movies. I love 2 , then 3, then 1 ... maybe it's just because I've seen 1 a lot more

I think it was nicer when I was a child and teenager. Now it is a bit too commercialized - but I still look forward to this time of year.

I love all holidays, but Christmas and Thanksgiving are my favorite. I absolutely love this time of year. I, too, do not like how commercialized the season has become, but I try to keep those aspects out of my celebrations. It can't be too materialistic because we don't have much money to spend. My least favorite part is the fact that some (like my grandmother) have passed on and I miss them more than ever during the holidays. But, on the other hand, I still have many loved one with which to celebrate. Also, even thought December 25 is not the actual date of Christ's birth, it is the date recognized and I am honored and humbled that the Savior, the King would lower himself and become human and grow up and die for me. Praise the Lord that He rose again! I love the decorations. I love the parades. I love the celebrations. I love it when we actually get cold weather in Alabama.

Lovely photo. That is a very good point, it isn't actually Christ's birthday , (and he never said to keep his birthday) however what a wonderful thing to celebrate to remind us of the great gift we received on his behalf. I will trade you some MN cold for some AL warm!

I love the lights, baking with my girls, and all the crafts. I miss my mom and grandmother. I feel bad at times my kids only know one aunt and uncle. But the people actually in their life are important and meaningful.
