Is winter really only a week away?

Next Thursday is the winter solstice, a fact I was reminded of by a message from my daughter's school announcing the annual sunrise hike that will take place in the park down the street from the school. It's kind of crazy to think that "real" winter is that close. The mornings here have been nippy, but it warms up quickly. Right now, it's 63 degrees out (about 17.2 C). It sure doesn't feel like winter is coming. Even the trees are starting to put out new growth, and they haven't even lost the last of their fall foliage yet! Is the weather delivering as expected where you are?

We celebrate the Solstice almost as much as Christmas. How lovely that the school has a sunrise hike. I'd love to be there for that!!! Its been crazy foggy here for a couple of weeks. I am delighted that the snow and ice has held off. Yes it feels like winter arrived at my house a couple of weeks ago. Coats and hats for sure.

They do one for every solstice or equinox, led by the kindergarten teacher. It's a pretty awesome tradition, but we've never done it because it's so early. I tend to have a lot of trouble getting moving in the morning. I've been sending the kids to school with heavy sweatshirts, but I'm pretty sure they take them off as soon as they get to playing. Oh, well... better to have them and not need them than the opposite!

It gets cold here in GA but rarely snows. It's hard to know when fall stops and winter begins.

Yes, weather is delivering snow right now and it's no more than 32 F (0 Celsius) outside.
