A nice surprise in the mail

Every year my college roommate (who is now our vacation buddy) sends us a big box of stuff from Omaha Steaks. We appreciate the gesture though we don't aren't always impressed with the actual products. I was expecting to receive the same thing this year.
Today I opened up the mailbox to find an envelope from our usual hangout. I thought that was weird as we are always there so there is no need for them to mail anything to us. I got into the house, immediately opened it up, and found a piece of paper that said "Hi NJChicaa and (husband's name). This gift card is from your friend in Connecticut." Enclosed was a $100 gift card.
This was definitely better than stuff from Omaha Steaks! Of course it will be put to very good use soon enough. We are busy this weekend but there's always next week's dinner and bar trivia on Wednesday!

Yes, that's a very nice gift! I'd rather get the gift card, to buy something that you personally picked out.

Agreed! And the gift basket my husband sent to her and her fiance arrived to them today as well which was funny. I asked my husband what he sent and it was a Harry and David Christmas goodies basket. He said "I just ordered the most expensive one available. I went shopping like your dad does." The funny thing is that is totally true. That's how my father shops. If it is the most expensive, it must be the best.
