A Unicorn

Do you remember the days of Blockbuster Video? Hollywood Video? Or the other chains that rented movies and games? Netflix pretty much put them all out of business. And after they did that, they of course then raised their prices. But that's not my point so I will move on.
My dad and I took two brothers (ages 8 & 2) from our church to see Christmas lights the other night, and we drove by a video rental store. I commented that I couldn't believe a store like that was still in business. He said he hadn't seen it, but it had to be out of business. I told him it was open, because they were advertising movies that had just been released on DVD. After we saw the lights (and I thanked God I had no children; no offense to the wonderful parents out there) we drove back by and he saw it was indeed, an open and functioning video rental store. It was an independent store, called My Family Video.
It seemed like a unicorn. Have you seen something you thought no longer existed or never knew existed in the first place?I
*The poor 2 year old screamed his head off, but it wasn't his fault. The 8 year old wouldn't leave him alone!

I can think of a few things that I have run into or answered surveys about that I did not know still existed.

I liked the Blockbuster as they had some classic movies.

I do remember those - but I thought they were completely in the past now! We have Netflix, but if something isn't there, I can always go to the various libraries here and check out DVDs for free. Seriously, it must've been like seeing a unicorn - it would be for me!

I was assistant manager at Hollywood video, and today it's so weird that a Redbox takes the place of an entire store.
We have one remaining video store in our town that has the name family in the title also. They also own the pizza place next door, and offer great deals on video and pizza combinations.

We still have a few of those Family Video's around here.. but I don't bother to go to them as the DVDs are usually always scratched. So annoying!
Amazon video and Netflix are all I need!

Oh yes, I remember the when video rentals had VHS tapes. Lol. It was always a treat to go in there.
I understand completely -- I have never ever wanted kids.
