Who knew, a buggy maker would create a landmark

This is a shot I just had to take, it was sometime in March of 2014

Yepper, the first Stahmann Pecan orchard is right here in Southwest NM, just a few miles outside Las Cruces. I took the photo above in March 2014 but I forgot about it until just now when I was looking for a Christmas picture to share. I used to love to drive thru this area and I have loads of pictures of the area but this is the most recent. Have you ever heard of Stahmann Pecans?

Yep. I've always loved driving through that orchard on Highway 28 but I never paid much attention to the history of it. They closed the shop a while back though, that was always a fun place to get an ice cream cone before going home. That's life though, things always change

Oh a pecan grove. Shut up, greedy little kid. Love me some fresh pecans. Truman Capote and grubbing for pecans for his fruitcakes. A fine thing.

It's lost some of it glory though, they closed the little shop that I used to stop in to get an ice cream cone or cup of coffee before heading home. The ride down Highway 28 was always a fun one for me.

I like Pecans but I have never heard of Stahmann Pecans. The pecans sold here usually come from South Africa or from Italy.

It strikes me funny that foods native to the Americas are now grown in other countries and no one seems to know that they originated here.

You are correct about all of that @LadyDuck I'm sure a lot of the foods we grow in the US originated in other countries as well. But it still strikes me as funny.

@rebelann I know they originated in the United States, but it's a loss less expensive to import something that comes from the country next door than to pollute the earth importing food from distant countries. We do not import potatoes from the America, even if they originated there. We grow our own potatoes now.

I love Pecan nuts and have never seen them growing! I had to look up NM as we are not too familiar with the codes of your States! Makes perfect sense!

In summer I love driving down the road that runs through those groves, to me it's almost like a forest given that I have not been in a forest since I was 8 years old. Was the link hard to understand?

@rebelann Its just the NH MN etc etc not quite sure of what state is being referred to at times! It does not really take a genius to work it out but I guess you are more used to using them than we are over here!

Yes, those state abbreviations can be confusing @garymarsh6 I don't know all of them either so sometimes I get confused as well.

Thank you. When reading about the owners of these orchards you'd think they were famous or something.

I haven't heard of them. I have driven past some impressive stands of pecan trees. The area we live in has orchards with Apple, cherry, peach, pear, plum among other things...not to mention the acres of vineyards.

Those kinds of trees wouldn't do well in our hot arid climate but Pecan trees do well if you water them properly.

And yet they make the silly claim that they are famous, HA! So much bragging only to find that no one knows who they are.
