More Christmas Memories

When I was about six or seven my grandmother would take with her to her lodge meetings. She and about a dozen other older ladies would meet each week for their usual ceremonious meeting. At Christmas time they had a talent show and many of their children and grandchildren would preform. I never did for I was too shy. After a wonderful feast I would help out in the kitchen washing the many dishes. I would take an occasional break to watch the other children who preformed. They had a corner of the large rug in the ceremonial meeting room rolled back for much of the talent was tap dancing. I recall when all the dishes were done I would be assigned to task of putting all the dishes away. Lots of heavy dishes and cutlery were kept in high cupboards. I would climb up on the kitchen counter and walk around to the appropriate doors where the dishes were stowed away until the next year. I was up pretty high and was a little nervous at time.
