Knowledge is a polite word for dead but not buried imagination. e. e. cummings This quote took some time to understand. I've reflected on it's content not sure of his intent, but I think I've finally grasped the meaning. Until we know something for certain, our imagination is given over to the wildest dreams and thoughts available, but once the experts know the truth, there's no more room for imagination, so it's "dead but not buried." Do you know what it means? https://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/e_e_cummings_156799?img=2

Pretty much, I think you are right. I can't come up with anything different.

That's a plausible explanation. I can't see any other possible meaning.

I agree with your explanation. Plus I have never heard this one before.
