There's a Deer in Our Tub

United States
December 15, 2017 9:23pm CST
Hubby finally got a deer a couple of days ago. He hung it outside and now it is frozen solid. He tried to remove the hide, and was unable to do so because the cold made it stiff as a board. So, he brought the deer inside and the only place big enough to hold the deer is our bathtub. Little Miss is fascinated with the deer and will probably be in the bathroom often to look at it. Hubby will be hunting in the morning and will be back in the afternoon. Hopefully with another deer. When he gets back he will butcher the deer we have in the tub. Guess we will have fresh venison tomorrow night.

I would not go inside the bathroom at all, I did not grow up to see killed animals.

I am not squeamish and have no problem with it. He is going to start the process of butchering it while we go shopping.

@ElusiveButterfly I am not squeamish either, but I love animals and I cannot stand to see them killed. I eat very little meat, because I avoid even to buy killed animals at the supermarkets. I eat mainly fish and chicken and I am sorry even for those ones.

@PainsOnSlate I know, it is the same here in Switzerland exactly for the same reason, deer and wild boars. Now the hunting season is over, the hunting season ends with the start of the cold season. I leave the professional hunters to do the job, I do not want to see killed animals.

No, it is not live. I don't think my cats would have liked that.

Must be quite a sight for your cats to see! Will there be space for the other deer though?

The younger cat is a bit freaked out. She came into the bathroom when I was brushing my teeth last night and her reaction was so funny. I almost choked with laughter.

I prefer my meat to come from the store. I don't have the stomach for seeing that sort of thing, but then again I didn't grow up around the hunting lifestyle.

I wasn't brought up around the hunting lifestyle. More like thrown into it when I met my first husband. He was an avid hunter.

My husband is a hunter. I took the online hunter's education course and passed it with a score in the 90's. Still have yet to get my license though. You have to go for a field test and it takes hours to complete.

Way to go! I have seen men have to clean thm inside the house too, being so cold outside, usually in the floor with newspaper or towels under them to catch any blood. Tony is about to go nuts trying to get deer, he loves the meat and I will confess I will eat this red meat on occasion.

It is good lean meat. We have a batch of venison jerky in the dehydrator at the moment. I want him to make a batch for Christmas so we can give it as gifts.

Little Miss got very excited over grampa bringing the deer inside. When I asked her to pick up her toys so he could bring the deer in, she jumped right up and completed the task. I had been trying to get her to do it all evening!

My dad would hunt for a deer every year and he usually got one, he hung it outside and gutted and took it apart, the bathtub made me laugh... I'm adding a photo I just found yesterday- at my grandfather's house, all the bothers and the grandfather hunted and usually they all get one, looks like this year (about 1950) they only got three...

I hope he gets another deer and can get the one in the tub thawed so he can butcher it.

This is not the first time I have heard about somebody putting a deer in a bathtub. A friend of mine had to cut up one of his deer in the bathtub,

My first husband always brought his deer inside to process. The tub was the best place to do this task.
