#4. U. S. States

United States
December 16, 2017 4:39pm CST
The first European settlers of Arkansas were French. They established a colony there in 1686. Then in 1803, that area was acquired by the United States as part of the Louisiana Purchase. Arkansas has the only active diamond mine in the U. S. Maya Angelou and Johnny Cash were born in Arkansas and of course, Bill Clinton, the 42nd President of the U. S. What else do you know about Arkansas?

@JohnRoberts Really? I've never been there. But, I think it would be fairly rare to find a diamond now.

Eventually I will get to Oregon. I'm going in alphabetical order, so I know you will be able to tell us more about your state.

I visited a tiny bit of Arkansas when my Mom lived in Missouri. Folks were very polite but the houses looked like there was quite a bit of poverty. It was a pretty place.

Arkansas IS one of the poorest states, I do believe. West Virginia struggles with poverty also. That's where I was born. But, something that most people don't know about West Virginia is that there are plenty of millionaires there too.

Rice and soy beans are two of the major crops farmers grow in Arkansas.

That's good to know. I used to eat a lot of rice. I love making chicken fried rice at home and I always order it when I eat at a Chinese restaurant. My children like cooked white rice with milk and sugar on it, and they love Rice Pudding.
