#5 U. S. States

United States

California became a part of the United States when Mexico surrendered the territory following the Mexican-American war in 1847. The largest city in California is Los Angeles, but the capital is Sacremento. I've been to both cities as well as San Francisco (one of my favorite trips.) I've also been to Redondo Beach and San Diego, as well as Hollywood. I have also been to the Redwood Forest. San Bernadino is the largest county in the United States at almost 3 million acres. Death Valley summer temperatures go higher than 115*F ( 46* C) One interesting fact: The site of the first movie theater was in Los Angeles on April 2, 1902. More than 300,000 tons of grapes are produced every year in California. What else do you know about California?

I don't suppose you reveal where you live. I lived in Okinawa for 18 months.

@franxav I wish you would write about your area. If I were to come to Kolkata, what would you recommend that I see first? What are some things that you enjoy about where you live?

Wow! A native! Have you ever lived anywhere else? I've had driver's licenses in West Virginia, Virginia, Colorado, Maine and North Carolina. Several years ago we moved back to Virginia and I had to get a Virginia license again. I don't plan on moving ever again.

Have you always lived in Louisiana? I've been through Louisiana but barely remember that trip. I think it would be too hot for me. Virginia suits me well. Even though we always have SOME hot days in the summer, I can deal with it. And we have SOME very cold days in the winter too. But, it doesn't last long. So, I just stay indoors on those days if possible. And only venture out if I absolutely have to.

@IreneVincent I was born in the former Canal Zone in Panama. My relatives and myself moved to Louisiana in 1978 after the ownership of the Panama Canal changed.
