growing up, the only wind chimes here were made of metal tubes and hung on doorways. then many years later, when my sister rented an apartment, she had a bamboo wind chime on the second floor veranda/balcony. i don't know where she bought it, but i have always loved its sound more - like being in hawaii. she moved so the bamboo wind chime is now hanging at the corner of this house where it catches the breeze. we still have a metal wind chime, though. but it's hanging on the handle of the screen door so we can hear people coming and going. i know that in other countries, there's are shops with a small bell screwed to the door.

I love wind chimes. I buy one a few years ago for only 150 pesos. It's made of bamboo and metal tubes. I love hearing it when there is strong winds. Do they also attract luck for the home?

maybe those who know feng shui would know the significance of wind chimes. i haven't seen one that's a combination of bamboo and metal so i guess yours would sound different.

do shops there put any bells, chimes, or anything that sounds off when the door opens and closes?

If I told you that I had about 25 wind chimes (or 30) in my house, would you believe me? They are pretty stuff, and sound nice, so we sort of buying a few here, a few there, and some gave us a few as souvenirs too. We also had a bamboo one like the one in your pic. Love the sound it made. Past tense, because after 11 years or so, the wind chime degraded into pieces. (Can't afford to buy another one like that , it is very very expensive here!)

whoa, more than 2 dozen wind chimes? as in one in every room, window and doorway? wouldn't it be noisy? re: expensive. that's why when filipinos who work or live overseas come home, they tend to buy the native stuff for their own homes or as gifts when they fly back.

@YrNemo somehow bunching 10 wind chimes together makes me think you created a chandelier. haha!

@hereandthere Most of my wind chimes are dainty stuff, we put a bunch of 10 together and the final product looks very cute. The rest scattered around the house, dangling on windows or handles of drawers or doorknobs.

@sishy7 Thanks sishy, yes they do. Whenever a dark and spooky storm rolls in, usually in the Spring, the strong winds will blow right through my screen and the chimes will start singing to me.

@shaggin it can be pretty loud when we have a windy kind of storm, but it's still nicer to hear than the metal tubes, which are okay for gentle breezes.

@sjvg1976 i see. although the bamboo wind chine is hung on the corner of the roof outside, the only time it's noisy at night would be when there's a typhoon that has strong winds, instead of heavy rain.

@hereandthere Now I finally realized why, long time ago my mom used to have chime hanged in our main door. Maybe I don't like chimes because its melodious ringing sounds reminds me of my mom and it makes me sad. I missed her already but I'll be home soon .. Anyway , I don't get your first statement , what do you mean by " some mylotters share your view"? -nothing serious, I'm just curious to know.
