Christmas time is here, no not the song the season. Time to sip the egg nog, attend parties, buy gifts, send out those cards, decorate the house and tree, and of course sing Christmas Carols. Which brings me to my topic. A music series of my favorite "Classic songs" with Christmas in the title. We are now halfway through our holiday series with today's selection. So as we enter the final stretch of Christmas "Chestnuts," lets first listen to this modern video selection. This punk, new wave, rock group paints a scenic take on a unintended Christmas song. Video facts- The official video features Hynde dressed as a member of the Salvation Army in a snowy location. The song was considered a Christmas song, but it was written for their guitarist James Honeyman- Scott who passed away a year before the song was released. Hope you listened to this beautiful holiday imaged rendition by the Pretenders before taking on those Christmas Carol clues. Now relaxed and full of Noel here you go: -One of my all time favorite versions of this song which was recorded by this artist in 1943. The singer scored a top ten hit with this Christmas tune. Originally written to honor soldiers overseas who longed to be home at Christmastime, the song has since gone on to become a Christmas standard. During WW II this classic tune was the most requested at USO shows. His laid back singing style influenced many male singers who came after him in the recording industry. He won an Academy Award for Best Actor for his role as a priest in a classic 1944 motion picture. There are the clues... Do you know the artist and the hit Christmas song? If not, hope you enjoyed the Pretenders Christmas video. Thanks for all who participate, read, and comment on my music trivia posts. As always, thanks for playing! Hope these songs brought back a pleasant memory for some...Use those clues!!!! *Bio info from Wikipedia Photo- google images/Amazon.com

Crosby recorded both versions. White Christmas was recorded a year earlier (1942) than the correct quiz answer. The song was written by the lyricist Kim Gannon and composer Walter Kent. White Christmas was written by Irving Berlin. Listeners during the war responded strongly to both of these Crosby Christmas songs. Bing Crosby- I'll Be Home For Christmas
