Would You Spend This Much On Christmas Presents?

I like the generousity of Christmas. I enjoy the goodwill people have towards each other. The feelings of love and family. Buying and receiving presents. In general, the whole spirit of the season. But can one take that love of family too far? How much is to much when it comes to Holiday spending? Helena Mueller, a 38-year-old mother from the UK, is extravagant when it comes to her little Lola. When Lola plays in the snow, frolicking and falling about, Helena takes hundreds of photos making sure to capture the moment. Going to the cinema together, getting spa treatments, and for Christmas, 68 presents under the tree all nicely wrapped and ready to open. All told it added up to $1,350 worth of gifts. So, what is wrong with being a little lavish, maybe she can afford to spend that amount on family members. But here is the catch, her little Lola is a dog! Lola's presents include clothes, premium dog toys and a special pet-friendly Christmas roast. The two year old Cockapoo is the love of Mueller's life. Mueller does have an only child who is six, but he receives a fraction of the gifts Lola gets. "Lola never moans about homework, and she never complains about what's for dinner..." Helena said, maybe because dogs are unable to speak. At least not the English language. "I do love my Lola more than my son Harry," she added. The dog has her own separate bank account, and an allowance of $130 a month for anything she might need. Although, I am not sure how she can access her account? In closing, I always bought my pet gifts for Christmas. A couple of toys, some catnip, and my cat was as happy as a pet can be. I am hoping this article I found on Mamamia is some sick joke. Please... please God let this be a joke. By the way, how much do you spend on your pet for Christmas? Source- Mamamia Photo-theodysseyonline.com/google images

Most of the time I spend zero on my pet at Christmas. I may get him a toy this time. She loves the dog more than her son?

That is what she stated. Her poor son! I wonder how her son felt when he looked for his presents under the tree and saw 68 presents for a dog and couple for him? How hurtful and traumatic for him. What a way to treat her child He is going to be so messed up when he grows up

Exactly! Did this lady think the dog would be disappointed for not receiving a lot of gifts? How do you buy more presents for your dog than your own child?

Wow, just wow. That's just nuts - and sad that she would even make a public statement that she loves her dog more than her son. For now we just have parakeets . . . and this year we got a couple bags of treats and a couple new "toys" for them - that's all - it probably doesn't even total up to $20!

I thought that woman's thinking was so pitiful. Pets are part of the family, but they do not replace your own children. No matter how much pleasure they give you they are not humans and should not be treated as such.

@dgobucks226 The silly thing is the dog is not going to understand anything about gifts or Christmas . . . but the son is sadly going to learn about his mom and her priorities .

That's unnatural to love a pet more than her son, and it's absolutely ridiculous to spend that amount on a dog.

We would never spend that much on anyone. As for our pet we buy a few treats and a couple of toys and call it a day.

Of course, this lady is totally irrational. Pets are part of the family, but they do not replace your own children. No matter how much pleasure they give you they are not humans and should not be treated as such. 68 presents for a dog? A couple for her own child?

I adore my cat but i would never come close to spending that kind of money on him i buy him treats and little toys all the time, not just on Christmas and he's more than OK with this.

@dgobucks226 To actually say she loves her pet more than her own son is really disturbing and calls for some psychological help. One day when her son gets older he's going to have a lot of resentment against his Mom and who can blame him.

It is stupid! What is wrong with this lady's thinking? Pets are great to have but they do not replace your children. Does the dog care if she receives clothes or spa treatments or so many presents?

I usually didn't spend anything on my dogs. I did once, getting him chew toys and a rawhide, but the rawhide just sat there, and the chew toys were shredded in minutes. He was unappreciative of what I got him. He liked my playing with him more than the gifts I got him. Both dogs were the same in that regard. Saying she loved her pet more than her son is tragic. I hope it's a joke too.

@dgobucks226 I was surprised my first dog, Rascal, didn't like rawhides. He just ignored them, so I never got them for Pip.

I guess it is the dog's instinct to do this to toys. When I had a dog he did the exact same thing. Although he did enjoy chewing up his rawhide and did not want me to take it away, lol.
