Go get your test

Hi My lot... Well my hectic week is already into it's Wednesday. Monday went better than I thought and Tuesday went incredibly well, I am so happy to say. If you read that long post I did awhile back where I was talking about the Christmas party , you'll see that I was nervous about this coming week, spending time with my dad (who can be challenging) my mom's screening tests and their results. Well I am very happy to report that (for the most part) my dad was pleasant , in spite of being obnoxious at times and high maintenance at times and occasionally behaving like a moody 2 year old. But at leas those moments weren't often and were for short periods of time. And even more exciting is that mom's tests came back clean. There were 3 done that day, those were routine check ups because she had cancer in the 80s, in 2013 and a recurrence in 2016. I thought now would be a good time to remind you all to get your conoscopy done as is advised by your phsyician. My mom has had many surgeries and now lives with some complications from all of those. There are tests with uncomfortable "prep". This could have all been prevented for the most part if she had gone in early enough for the sceening test known as colonoscopy. She wishes she had. Colonoscopy from what my mom has said - the worst part is the prep. However it is tolerable. And it could save you and your family and loved ones the stress and discomfort of major problems in the future. Please talk to your physician about it -- if you have certain risk factors like family history like I do - you may need to go in earlier. Like I told my mom - we can go in together when I turn 40 , which is the age I will go in. Photo: Pixabay

I do not look forward to it at all and the thought of it makes me get anxiety so I am glad I am many years off from having to do it. I am glad with your family history you will be checked early and more often. So sad your mom has had to go through what she has but I am glad her results were good!

I am so glad to hear the news about your mom! And your advice is pretty darn wise. My Aunt Ruth survived stage four colon cancer, which seems miraculous. She has been cancer free for almost ten years. My dad had precancerous polyps removed about 7 years ago, but nothing since. Going in when you should is advice that cannot be repeated enough.

Thanks so much! Oh wow, I am so happy your Aunt Ruth is alright, that is a true victory! A miracle! Good for your dad for going in before it was a problem. That is a very good reminder of why we should go in before it's a problem

Yes, it is better to get ourselves medically examined at regular intervals. Hope your mother is better now.

This sounds similar to what my husband is susceptible to getting. He has regular colonoscopies. The uncomfortable prep is worth every moment if it prevents bowel cancer.

Oh yah, the colonoscopy itself is a snap, the prep is an itch. lol MY husband and I both had ours this year and I am a big proponent of be proactive when it comes to health.

My colonoscopy is due next year. The worst part is the prep, but with a cushioned seat, wi-fi, and an iPad I can just make myself at home in the bathroom all evening. The last time I had a colonoscopy they didn’t give me the “goop,” but instead a bottle of Miralax and a box of Ducolax. I had a pretty crappy outlook that night, but things were fine. My grandfather and uncle had colon cancer, my mom had polyps, and I have diverticulitis, so I don’t miss that appointment.

Good for you, important to have the test done, as icky as the prep is. I'm happy things were fine

The prep is the worst part. I've had three of them I think. I know I've had two. I really don't want another if I can avoid it. Yes, I have issues, which is why I've had three already in a matter of a couple years. I'm glad your party with your parents went better than you expected.

I am prone to take my health lightly especially the periodic tests. I wait for some symptoms and then do not wait any more. I am happy that things are stable now regarding your mom's health, we can only do what we can and hope for the best - siva

Thanks, I'm happy mom's came back alright, too. Ah sometimes one can do that, though I would say sometimes, esp. with this test -- there are no early symptoms... :/
