Just in time to greet you all a Merry Christmas and share a simple fix that may come in handy

I had been unable to login to Mylot for I think a week of more, the site simply failed to load, all the other sites were fine except Mylot and 3 other sites, ummm...funny. I'm not a geek but neither am I naive nor stupid when doing simple computer trouble shooting so starting with the simplest I scanned my computer for viruses,it did not work, start and restarted the computer and modem, cleared history, cookies and cache, installed and reinstalled my web browser, tried out different browsers, configured my ip,changed my dns server to the best using an open source utilitydown load but still I could not access Mylot and the 3 other sites, Now funny things started entering my mind like Mylot and those sites blocked me , I tried pinging and doing all other weird stuff that I could read in " fix" blogs and forums, some I could hardly understand just to find out what was really wrong. After days of trying to get connected, I finally gave up I just concentrated on my bitcoin and cryptocurrency projects but from time to time I would still try to check on Mylot if I could connect but nada, this is getting so frustrating, so in one of my crazy fits I pulled the plug out on everything, my modem, my wireless router, my pc, monitor, speakers and just stared blankly at them, damn cursed modern technology, Time came that I had to get back to my bitcoin stash and other cryptos so I reconnected everything and lo and behold, I could access Mylot and the 3 other sites. so what exactly happened? I later found out ( in another forum) that whatever it was, it was caused by opening and being logged on to a particular site using several devices for extended periods of time, exactly what I was doing, while mylotting, Mylot open on my PC and open on my android when Im lying down and in another device. I hope this would be helpful incase you encounter a similar problem, I read forums and even experts had difficulty fixing it when the solution was very simple. JUST TURN OF AND UNPLUG EVERYTHING FOR A FEW MINUTES. Anyway I could log in again to once again join you and just in time to greet everyone a MERRY , MERRY CHRISTMAS

Yeah and while doing so I also got to fix other problems like slow loading sites due to my bad dns server, fixed accidentally. I really felt that I had to share this because we now have several devices like mobile phones, we might leave a site open for a long time on several devices sharing the same ISP, I'm thinking now if this could be one reason some members left the site.

I often see other Mylotters from your country. Perhaps in the past days your country has attacked by the typhoon and therefore some connection was lost and this is perhaps you can't login Mylot? I am glad you are back here. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

The typhoon is in the South, so far away it was never felt here in the Metropolis, but it did affect my mother's home province, I already had the problem before the typhoon. Merry Christmas

I unplug everything and plug it back in when I have lots of problems and that works good. On a laptop take out the battery and put it back works to.

I use to just restart the computer or modem, unplugging everything does more wonders especially now that using several devices is not uncommon.

@louievill hmm I don’t sign out of mylot either from devise to device but only have one open and in use at a time. I assume the site thinks a hacker is accessing your account so it blocks one from entering?

I seldom get that error, although I do get a timeout error occasionally. But that's usually fixed after refreshing the page a couple of times. If you continuously get the "site can't be reached" error, you can also try to uninstall the browser, defragment the hard drive and reinstall that browser.

I have tried all that, in fact I just did not install and reinstall my browser but tried several on my PC and phone, the weird and funny thing is I could logon to Mylot only using " opera mini" on android but the menus would not drop down, and I could only scroll upto 10 discussions, really weird and funny. Mylot did not work on the regular Opera browser. My hard drive does not need defragmentation since I had set it to defrag automatically, I also know that it's not fragmented files since I cannot access Mylot and the 3 sites on my phone or on any other device connected to that wireless router, so I narrowed it down and my conclusion was it was connection problem. thanks for the advice anyway.

Well I hope you have an upcoming Merry Christmas also this year of 2019. When I came here before I saw that you didn't write very often, but I didn't realize that you really don't write very often. Do you mind if I ask how well you do here just interacting on the pages of everyone else? The employee that I discussed earlier that joined may choose to mainly interact and not write discussions himself, although I really don't know his intent. I may find out tomorrow as we're doing a few jobs in wintry weather. Oddly enough he is having problems getting mylot to load a discussion or whatever he was writing. It may have been a comment rather than a discussion. Although, he only has a phone to mylot on no computer or other devices. I might suggest that he and his dad who is providing the hotspot for the house to both turn their phones off for a few minutes and see if that makes a difference.

I use to write often but I have other things more profitable to do as of now, I open Mylot often just to react to a topic or topics I like at random, obviously it won't make me as much as those who write and interact at the same time. I'm an employer like you and I own my own business so Income from Mylot is not really my target as of now but I love the site, I love the people and I had been here for quite sometime now. I use a phone, a PC, a tablet or whatever device is near me and I don't find any issues, perhaps it's a matter of getting used to. Yes perhaps restarting would help, I'm not so sure if sharing the same modem might give a similar IP that the site detects.

@MarshaMusselman I ran a trading/junk business, I buy anything I could make profit on so long as it's legal, it's like a poor man's version of " Pawn stars " if you watched that, difference is I also buy recyclables even in very small amounts. Yes workers work for me to sort and refurbish stuffs that are still good others are simply recycled when it has reached the right volume to be sent to the next level of the recycling process.

@louievill I already talked with Alex about their situation so that shouldn't be a problem. Plus so far he's the only one that has signed up. It could be he ran out of time since he plays pool in Wednesday nights in a league. What type of business so you have and do you have employees too?

That's the reason I do not log out from this site on my phone and on my desk top, think the real issue is when we jump from one device to the other and leave the site open and logged in in both devices for a long time.

@louievill Wow! That thought never crossed my mind. You don't logged out? Your internet must be really good. Here my internet goes every 15 minutes or so, then I have to reset the WIFI router and wait a while for it to connect. Imagine my frustration.

i use a pc and a phone, but not at the same time. i'm sure this will be helpful to other mylotters. i've also had to overcome my fear of cables and to unplug and plug things back when this "new" cpu doesn't boot. one time, though, i pulled the wrong cable while someone was watching tv. oops!

Just don't leave it logged in and open on two or more devices, you are like my mother, afraid of electric plugs lol. Nothing to lose if you study how the connections are made then perhaps you will have more self confidence.
