Bitter Cold Out

Canada
December 28, 2017 7:13am CST
Time to go out and cut, haul and chop firewood again. The wind chill outside right now is down close to -35C so I better dress up. I'm not expecting this to be a whole lot of fun. Hope the rest of the world is warmer than we are.

BBUUUURRRRRR that's way too cold, how the heck do you do it up there in that sub freezing weather? I don't mean to brag but it's 2 here and I thought that was cold .... I stand corrected, now I need a blanket, your beautiful photo made me feed even colder.

The photo is actually from a previous winter but that's pretty much what it looks like right now. I'm looking forward to the end of this cold snap.

I can imagine @koopharper I hope it comes pretty soon. I'd send you some of our warmer weather if I could.

@rebelann Thanks. I just need it to be warm enough to use my wood lathe. It doesn't work when it gets this cold.

It's warmer here, but not very warm, a chilly wind is blowing.

The wind is the worst of it here. Blows right through my pants and longjohns. Fortunately, I have what I call my bearproof snowsuit for working in these temperatures.

@koopharper I think I can't survive in that kind of weather.

It's worse than freezing cold, lol. I prefer it to rain just above freezing. In that weather my firewood gets wet and staying warm is a challenge.

@toniganzon You would adapt. That doesn't mean you would like it though.

It’s pretty cold here too. Anything below -5 makes me want to stay in bed. Unfortunately things must get done. I will limit how often we leave the house though. It was -22 this morning and we will only make it to -10 if we are lucky. Thankfully we have not had issues with frozen pipes like others in our neighborhood have with these cold snaps.

I'd rather stay inside myself but I was sick off and on during the summer and didn't have the strength to stock up then. I am at full strength now thankfully.

The cold spell still isn't over. I'm not sure how much longer it'll last. On the bright side, I've been able to get firewood every single day and I'm getting ahead even though we're burning quite a lot.

@teamfreak16 We're still down there with a wicked wind chill. It won't stay this way though.

I probably should post a few discussions to get all back up to speed. It has been awhile. I've just recently started being active again.

@koopharper I love living rurally. In our state, there are not any edges of civilizations any longer. We have rural and that is it. Enjoy your edge of the world!

Dirt or mud depending on how recently we got rain this time of year. It is beautiful. Living on the edge of civilization does have its perks.

I have enough wood to get through this cold snap in good shape. I just have to make sure I have enough for the cold snaps that will happen over the next three or four months.

This summer has featured one of the longest heat waves I can remember. I still don't miss that kind of cold very much.

That's warmer than we have it inside. I spent four years in Pasadena and I much prefer breathing the air here.

I think most of the country is in the deep freeze right now. Yesterday at work I joked that I was going to go stand in the freezer to warm up after the garbage run.

In Kenya it is very hot since its mostly 30C and above. Keep warm though. You use firewood to cook?

We can do some cooking on the wood stove even though it isn't intended for that. Most of our cooking is done with electricity. Too expensive to heat the place that way though.

We were sunny yesterday but today is kind of gloomy out. Supposed to stay mainly clear and cold clear through the weekend. Right now warming my toes back up. Will go out this afternoon for another round.
