The farmers market is a source of delicious things.

Yummy, yum, I said when I saw a kilo of sweet potatoes for less than 1 dollar. I bought it to the Haitian vendor. The biggest farmers market changes hands with every new immigration.
The kind of things you can buy there also change and new veggies and spices come to being. The Peruvian immigration some years ago brought here also their cuisine. Now there are incredibly delicious Peruvian restaurants everywhere but you can also buy the chiles and the Peruvian corn at the market.
We are now eating many dishes from other countries. From my mother´s side, I had a great grandmother who came from Peru. But that was before the fusion cooking with many spices from far away places. So my picante de gallina has nothing to do with what young Peruvian immigrants cook.
The world is SO interesting! Even when we cook, we can lear a lot about other countries and cultures.
Do you make dishes that you learned from your elders?

I love Santiago´s biggest farmers market. But I only go when I have to go to the hospital as it is too far away from home.

@marguicha We don't go very often. It's hardly worth the drive just for the two of us.

I make dishes that my mom and grandmother used to make. Both great cooks.

I once went to a farmers market when I was in Europe and it was very different than ours.

Do you still have your family nearby to teach you?

It is very gratifying when we master those dishes from our childhood.

I've pulled away from what my Mom used to make cause I need to eat healthier. I do continue to love sausage though and that's not good for me. I try to limit my eating that to only a couple of times a year.

It is a pity when we lose what our elders should have taught us.
