aiko sushi and karate kid

i saw a sushi station at the mall called aiko sushi, but they have a sign that you have to order two days in advance, and then pick up your order. i might buy a platter for our annual new year's day get-together for a change of menu. my choices so far are: california maki with cucumber (crab and avocado), tamago roll (egg), kani roll (crab), tuna roll and salmon roll. i'd have to go there to place an order tomorrow, dec. 30th, to be able to pick it up for the family lunch on jan. 1st. i also ate at karate kid for the first time. i had chicken teriyaki with rice and mixed veggies and kido punch tea. the veggies consist of bean sprouts, cabbage, carrots, and bell pepper, which i liked. next time i plant to try sweet and sour fish, gyoza (steamed wanton dumpling), and takoyaki (bits of octopus, tempura, etc mixed with batter then fried into a ball) have you tried any new food, snack, dessert or drink this holiday season? (pop memories: i remember listening to Turning Japanese by UK band The Vapors in 1980, Big in Japan by German band Alphaville in 1984, and watching the movie The Karate Kid, starring Ralph Macchio (as Daniel LaRusso) and Pat Morita (as Mr. Miyagi), also in 1984.

yeah, it can be trial and error. we wouldn't know until we actually eat there. sometimes, also, what happens is it was great the first two times when they're new, then after a while, you come back and things have changed.

I had traditional food, as we always do for the holiday, the only new thing I tried is a pomegranate sorbet, very pleasant.

@YrNemo well, it's only the 29th so you still have time to plan (or buy) what you want to serve

It all sounds so yummy . . . good eatings ! Let's see . . . As you may recall, I went to an Australian cafe through @sishy7 's suggestion - and tried lamingtons (an Aussie spongecake with chocolate and coconut on the outside) and a ground beef meat pie. My son had a heritage feast in his classroom - the foods I specifically remember were: Vietnamese eggrolls, Armenian dolmas (I think - stuffed grape leaves anyway), and Persian kotlet (potato cutlet). Our friend gave us this homemade cake - a Syrian recipe - I couldn't tell you what was in it but it was a kind of yellow cake - honey-ish - just enough sweet. My kids had a playdate with their Filipino friend. He brought out leftovers out from Christmas for a snack . . . so they got a taste of lechon with rice . Oh - at the Korean market, we sampled some Korean rice cakes! I got a kick out of your pop memories .

Two days in advance? That wouldn't work for me. I can't guarantee that I would have appetite for that in two days. They must have lots of orders
