It's Fun Decoding Patsie Hatley's Discussions

A member (9 years) of mylot accidentally broke her eyeglasses some time ago. Until her doctor can fit her with a replacement which is taking a long time because of bureucratic paperwork, she is having difficulty writing her posts. One post I read even hinted that she continues to post gibberish only for the money (pennies to be more precise) Most of us won't be here long if not for the pennies. Let us address the "Elephant in the room". Is she violating any mylot rules because her posts are difficult to read? Actually I'm having fun trying to decipher her posts. I treat it like any other daily challenges that mylot members would issue from time to time. Your opinion?

She didn't have glasses that's why she's typing that way? well, at least she's still typing here.

@Letranknight2015 _I would probably have taken a break from mylot which is why I find her perseverance worth applauding.

I don't think its technically violating any rules, but she always gets so hurt by anything anyone says on her posts if we cant understand them. So I've stopped reading hers.

We could avoid leaving comments that hurt her sensitivity. Just comment on the topic and not about the difficulty of reading it.

@josie_ There are times that you cant decipher what she is saying though. And I'm not saying anything mean, she just gets offended easily. So it's better if I don't comment

@josie_ it has gotten progressively more illegible. That’s great that you want to try to decode it but most don’t nor should they have to, especially when every 3rd post is a rant about not getting any responses or not earning 5 cents.

@NJChicaa _You have a point. Although I have nothing against those who choose not to comment or interact with her posts. I find it unkind to criticize her for trying despite the difficulties she has to overcome.

I agree it's no fault of hers. Frankly I admire her spunk to carry on. I would have probably given up especially with the brickbats being thrown at her.

I admire Patsie. I only hope that I can be as smart as she is at her age. There are not a lot of people in their 90s who are so active online. She is here everyday posting. She is a big part of this group. I was happy to see Alex post in her defence about people giving her a hard time about errors. I do my best to respond to her discussions and to support her. I can not even imagine how difficult it would be to type without glasses when you need them. I don't like to see her hurt or getting stressed about it because it isnt good for her health. I am a lot younger then Patsie and I had a heart attack which was partly bought on by stress. She doesnt need the added stress.

I also wonder whether I could still be as mentally active and alert when and if I reach her age. It's better to look at a situation with a positive attitude and Patsie is proving that. We don't need to add to her difficulties with unkind comments. Although I believe most of those responding are unaware of the real reason her posts have many grammatical and spelling errors.

I was also unaware of her problem earlier. I experience a similar situation when I accidentally broke my glasses. I had to squint my eyes to read the words. I'm surprise she is still posting despite the difficulties. You got to admire her persistence.

She is a well loved member here. I feel so bad for her struggling to see the way she does. I didn't realize it was her glasses broke I simply thought there was nothing that could be done with her failing eyesite. I have always loved interacing with her over the years. Her beautiful graphics always amaze me. I am happy to hear that once she can finally get the glasses she will be able to see better. It has to be very frustrating and depressing her to be without them. I think it is wonderful at her age that she can be here with us. None of my grandparents lived that long.

At 91 if I get to live that long, I'll probably be "blind as a bat" (I already can't see clearly without glasses) not to mention the deterioration of my mental capacity which I'm hoping to delay through writing in sites like this. We have to keep our minds busy. As the saying goes, "Use it or lose it". Like many here we wish her well and hope she finally have her glasses.

@shaggin _Best we focus on the positive, the part of the glass being half full. Even people younger than us often only have half a brain. Also a sense of humor goes a long way.

@josie_ So true, but you can always discuss with her, no matter what she writes. If I cannot read what she had for breakfast, I ask if she liked, if she is going to take a nap and so on.

@LadyDuck _ I just responded to another comment here that I find I like reading about what she had for her meals and trying to figure out why? Perhaps it is because I have this odd sensation of being transported into the future and imagine how life would be in my twilight years when my time would be measured between each meals of the day. It's a lonely feeling.

It's does not take much effort and also encourages her not to give up. One member who probably found it difficult to decipher her writings simply commented "Nice picture Patsie" How hard is that?

She seems like a nice lady. I enjoy her posts about her younger days. Although, I admit I don't check in on her posts as often as I would if they were typed out more coherently. I have a hard time deciphering them sometimes. It's a shame she's gone so long without glasses. If she knows her prescription, maybe some of us could chip in and order her a pair (even just to have as a backup) from Zenni Optical. They are inexpensive and I am happy with my glasses I've ordered from them. At least it would be something until her doctor fits her with a new pair. (Just an idea...)

@josie_ I wonder if anyone else would be interested in helping with this? Of course, it wouldn't work if Patsie doesn't know her prescription, as that is required to order glasses online.

It is a good idea. I'm sure there are many who share the same sentiment but don't know how to go about it. Perhaps to simplify matters ask mylot to transfer from our earnings directly to her account? The cost could be divided proportionately between those willing to chip in. The amount each need to give becomes smaller with more participants.

@Srbageldog _I'm not sure either because from the bits and pieces I gather from her comments the delay is coming from the health insurance processing which I find surprising. Why can't the home where she is staying foot the cost first? I am also puzzled why her son (I recall her mentioning him) doesn't do anything either. How much does a prescription glass cost in the US anyway?

With the posts @Hatley writes I have great fun. I go by the principle that she is trying to tell me something now I just have to figure out what that is. What helps me is that I learned how to read the old script which is difficult to decipher so her posts are kind of easy for me to figure out eventually. I always read all of her posts not just pretend to read them and I just love her Bubbles stories and poetry.

Her poems can be fun to read. I like reading about what she had for dinner or lunch although I don't when others write about this kind of topic. I'm still trying to understand why.
