Thank God yesterday is over

Around my part of the world December is leaving with a bang.
There's the bang of cars and trucks slip sliding as they hit a ditch. There's the bang and scream as a human crashes.
Yesterday I did not take my hubby to work. The sheriff department put out a warning on Facebook: Do NOT go anywhere, on foot or in a vehicle unless it is a have to.
We woke to ice and more ice. Folks with four wheel drive reported that their vehicles were not getting a grip on the road.
At home hubby bent his knees and stomped his way down to feed the hens cause I do not have good enough knees to bend and I am petrified to go near ice. Falling for me means a huge catastrophe. It is not at all easy for me to get up once I am down. Putting weight on my knees is not at all fun. Hurts like the devil.
Today the temps have risen above freezing. There is a wind but the sun is out- first time in days and days. We may drive in to town for a late lunch.
Ahead: January. Possibly more ice coming. For now our storm is over. We'll go from here and see what to do next.

I complain a lot about living in Arizona but I really don't miss driving on icy roads. I hope you get weather that's a bit more friendly but January and February are notorious for being problematic! At least they were in the Midwest.
I see you're thinking of moving. Don't move to Arizona. It's dry, hot, and expensive. Air conditioning in a 3 bedroom house (one story) runs around $300 a month in the summer if you're very careful and set it so high you sweat if you move. Summer lasts 6-9 months a year and "winter" means it's cooled down to the 80s and 70s but the nights are great at 40-50. It's too hot to go out most of the year unless you live up north in the mountains then you deal with the snow, although not as bad as where you are now.
Florida is like living in a sauna. I lived there for 4 years and even northern Florida is uncomfortable. The roaches are 3" long and they FLY!!! Sand fleas, sand everywhere, mosquitoes, snakes, spiders the size of your hand that love to live in your house, etc.
The Carolinas are nice. My sister loves Georgia--moderate winters, 4 seasons, summers aren't bad, and you can go to the beach if you're willing to drive awhile.
Good luck. Think hard and talk to a lot of people before you move!

Thank you for your very thoughtful answer. I visited with my daughter in Tucson this year. She thinks that it is cheaper to live there than in my state. I know that her paycheck is smaller than it would be where I live. I didn't find it cheaper to be in Tucson when I was there. My part of the world gets a hot summer so I know about air conditioning bills. We have also visited Charleston and loved it though we found an amazing amount of rain could fall though the temps were hot. We're thinking about Western Oregon and due to age sneaking in, its going to have to be near a bus line. How in the heck did cowboys get old?? How did they manage??

Holy Crow, you are getting nailed up there. We had a sunny day in the low 50s yesterday and it will be a balmy 41 maybe today. Be careful and I hope neither of you fall.

@JamesHxstatic This is nothing compared to last year and yet I continue to worry about the morning commutes. It looks like more moisture coming my way then 20s at night. Not a cute combo.

We had a rather warm day here. My daughter said it felt like 60 out. It was actually 43. Up about 10 degrees from out norm of late. Sure makes you look forward to the spring doesn't it?

That's a bad situation. It is cold here, but our roads are drivable.

That sounds terrible. Stay safe and be careful. Here in Latvia, it has been unusually different and we have misty rain and green grass. However, I am afraid the ice and snow will come in January and then our suburban street gets so slippery that I cannot get out.

I'm very happy your husband stayed home. I hope the ice thaws and the danger disappears. Ice is the worst part of winter. Even more hazardous than the brutal wind chills.

It's scary, even in Texas it iced for us overnight. I'm also worried about walking in it.
