Do I really need it?

So, being a "foodie" I like to watch Food Network alot. This morning the guest chef on the kitchen was using vanilla paste which is a product she was stating gives everything a very vanilla taste, and is much better than vanilla extract. I do love vanilla, just for curiousity I went on Amazon and the cheapest thing was a small tube for 8 dollars. Most of it was much more expensive. I would love to try it..but honestly, I don't even use vanilla all that often. Maybe, if I am lucky, I will stumble across it somewhere less expensively. What kind of vanilla do you use?

I’ve used recipes that called for vanilla paste but they also had measurements for pure vanilla extract so I subbed that. I have a ton of it as I vacation in Mexico each year and bring a bottle home every trip!

I use Neilson Massey, but it's at home or vanilla beans, which I load up on in Mexico, when I make ice cream. You're right. Not cheap. I do have paste up north, but forgot the brand.

A food purist would not use imitation, but it sure is the cheapest. I used to have some real vanilla I got in Cancun..but it is gone now.

@snowy22315 I wouldn’t use imitation. I’d buy or make the real stuff

I don't use it much anymore since I my kids are grown and I don't often bake. When I do, I use Molina Mexican Vanilla Blend that I get at the dollar store. It is much better than imitation vanilla and I can't find anywhere on the bottle where it says it's imitation. At $1 for 4 ounces, it's a bargain that lasts me at least a year. That vanilla paste sounds great but I wonder if it's concentrated so you use less? Or do you use as much as the liquid? In the latter case, I would not buy it or my budget would go find a hammer and whack me!
