My Best New Years Eve

Over twenty years ago today, I had a special gift for New Years, well actually two of them. My twins. I had them at home with a midwife, who also delivered my second child. Everything went well and even though it's never fun to go through the pain, it's worth it to get such blessings. They were born so close to midnight, that they were minutes away from being born on separate years. Happy New Year everyone, and I pray this year will bring you many blessings. The (bad quality) picture is my parents holding my twins. It's close to three in the morning so that's why they look so tired. Please no rude remarks about home birth.

Fun isn't it, having twins and they were born in different years. One of my relatives' twins were born on different days. Happy New Year.

@misunderstood_zombie I sincerely hope so. Last year was bad to the extent that if I could, I would hide inside the house and avoid the whole world.

They were just very close to different years. It would have been fun though. Happy New Year, I hope it's a good one for you.

@YrNemo I'm so sorry you had such a bad year. I've had one of those before, and it's not good. I pray that things will change for you. God Bless You.

Congratulations. My brother and sister are twins too. My Mum didn't even know she was having twins. This was back in 1938.

Wow, that was a surprise for your mom. I'm glad things went well with her. I didn't know until I was 6 weeks due, so I had a little warning. Mostly, we just looked shocked for 6 weeks.

First off let me say how awesome it is you chose to have them at home with a midwife. I had my second child with the care of a midwife. I absolutely loved going that route but hated the hospital with both my kids. Nothing feels more uncomfortable then being in pain away from home and being stuck there until they will release you and having to follow their rules like no co-sleeping etc. I was so sick I fell asleep with the baby next to me and they gave me hell for it. I think for the most part after having two I could just deliver my own baby at home next time lol. Beautiful photo and happy birthday to your now grown children! Oh and happy new year to you!

@misunderstood_zombie I think it really depends on the hospital and their rules and the states laws etc. I had two experiences at this one hospital I didn’t like so if I ever have another child I will go somewhere else.

@shaggin I guess that's true. I just assumed it was that way everywhere.

@shaggin Thank you, I just saw this response, sorry I didn't answer before. At the time, hospitals had such strict rules that I thought took away from the whole process. When My daughter had her kids in a hospital, it was really nice and no one cared how many people stayed, she could get up or take a bath, or anything she wanted. So it is better since I had my first child in a hospital, but I still like the home births better.

Your twin babies are beautiful, I am glad they were born the same year, it would be funny to have twins born on separate years.

Thank you! You're right though, there isn't any change of mind for pain meds, unless a hospital is called for. Happy New Years to you and your cousin, I hope it's a great year for you.

What a wonderful New Year's gift that was. Do you have other family members who are twins?

No, they are a boy/girl twin, so that means 2 eggs. It's weird though, because my husband's mother was a boy/girl twin, and her aunt and uncle were also, plus one of her grandparent's were boy/girl twins, yet it had nothing to do with mine. I always thought that was weird.

@misunderstood_zombie that sounds like the twins are in the genes from your husbands side of the family (unless he isn’t the twins father might be what you mean)

People have said rude things to me in the past about it, and since I've dealt with it here on other issues, I thought I should write that about rude remarks. I don't think you're a wimp at all, it's just a personal choice, that's all. I think anytime a woman has a child, wimp is not in her vocabulary. Thank you for your kind thoughts, Happy New Years!

It really does, but makes their actual age at Christmas times in the past a tiny bit of a puzzler.

No better present than that, and how great to have that picture. Are they girls or boys, or one of each?

I took a picture of the actual picture with my camera phone a couple of years ago, and that's why it's kind of blurry, but thank you. They are boy and girl twins. I hope you are having a great New Year's day.

Things have changed so much now for births in hospitals, but at the time there were too many rules and regulations, so that's why we opted it at first. That's cool you're dad was born at home.Happy New Year, and I hope it is a perfect year for you.

It seems like it didn't happen that long ago, and now their grown. I wish we could turn back time and I would go back and slap myself and tell me to enjoy the time I had with them and not to sweat the small stuff so much, and not to take that time for granted. Thank you, and Happy New Year to you also.
