Actors A-Z Alan Alda Even though Alda is 81 this year, he is still working in show biz, and doesn't have plans to stop that I can see. As a child, he traveled the world with his parents, since his father, who was also an actor, found work in many European countries. Sadly, he had polio as a child, but somehow persevered and with treatments for his legs, came out of the trauma unscathed. He married in 1958, and is still married to the same woman. I love Hollywood stories of long marriages. I guess it makes me believe that there are real people in Hollywood and they're not all fake shallow humans. He has appeared in many movies, but is well known for his role in M*A*S*H as Hawkeye. This was a show that stayed popular for 11 years, starting in the early 70's. The last episode of M*A*S*H still remains the highest watched episode in the history of TV (though this is most likely just US figures). The picture is free to use on Wikimedia of Alan Alda with his dad Robert Alda. Do you like this actor?

Yes, I do like Alan Alda. Great that he is married still with the same lady.

I remember in the past he was a big supporter for women's rights, so he must respect his wife a great deal.

I did watch Mash when it was on. He directed and wrote many of the episodes of which I wasn't aware. By the way, Alan Alda is not his real name which I didn't know either till I looked it up. His real name was Alphonso Joseph D'Abruzzo.

Never heard of him before. Nor does his face look familiar. But I’m so bad with actors

I think Mash was before your time, but you may have seen reruns, perhaps?

@misunderstood_zombie none that I remember. But I figured he’s an old actor. I’m not good with current actors names let alone the older ones.

Hollywood marriages must be under a lot of pressure at times. Like you, I like to hear of long marriages.

I agree, plus there's probably a lot of people flirting with them, so that just adds to the pressure.

I only remember Robert staring on Mash, it's hard to believe Alan is in his 80's.

I love to watch Alan Alda, he is a great actor. And he must be a pretty good person also to stay so grounded that he's still married to the same love of his life. Those relationships in the limelight do not always last.

I remember when he was on talk shows a great deal. They always brought up his work for women's rights, so he must have had a healthy respect for women, which might have added to his marriage.
