I Wonder What's it Like to Howl at a Full Moon

"Aim for the moon. If you miss you may hit a star." The first day that will usher in 2018 will see the rise of a "Full Wolf Moon". There is still no definitive answer as to whether the moon-cycle affects human behavior. MYTHS: More crimes are committed during a full moon _Nothing to do with lunacy. People including criminals are more active because it's easier to see or spot your victims during a full moon than a moonless night. More weird things happen during a full moon _This pre-conceive idea is deeply rooted in us through traditional belief and the entertainment media. So when some strange things do happen during a full moon, We might wonder if the moon cause the phenomenon. Wolves howl at the moon _They do not. They're nocturnal animals. They howl to communicate over long distances (as far as 6 miles). It's about acoustics. Turning their faces skywards project their calls upwards and allow the sound to carry farther. I'm turning into a werewolf _No, I'm not. But if I do become one, you won't find me joining the wolf pack during a full moon. I'll be that solitary wolf silhouette on a hill top, articulating her emotions while Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata" plays in the background. Do you have any traditional belief about the full moon? Do you believe the moon-cycle especially during a full moon can affect your mood? Photo image: Pixabay

@josie_ I do think it is a myth. I haven't seen one, too. During the old days, the elders scared the children not to go out of their houses at night.

The aswang is one of the more popular Philippine myths. If you think about it, it's usually during full moon or when there is a bright moon that children like to play outdoors (during my time and pre-internet gaming) So the older folks would use the aswang myth to scare the children into coming back in to the house if it's past their bedtime.

I'm just extra careful during full moons since our body is 60% or more water and some creatures contain even more. If the moon can influence ocean tides, I don't see why it won't do anything to the water inside our bodies

@josie_ well Im not waiting for science to prove it, perhaps they have not yet taken time to invent the measuring equipment. Everything in the universe has a role that plays in conjunction with everything, maybe even starlight has an effect on us who knows. It may not be tidal pull, it could be something that we do not yet understand, if sunshine affects organisms then moonlight definitely does too so I'm not taking any chances, it has been observed throughout history, same with comets haha..if there is smoke fire is a possibility.

@louievill _What emergency measure do you take during fool er...full moon so it won't affect your physical and mental faculties? Do you stay inside and avoid going outdoors, do you wear some kind of clothing material to prevent the harmful rays of the moon? Instead of a sun screen, is there a moon screen cream for our skin? Do we need to drink more water to make up for any loss cause by the moon's pull on our body liquids? I think scientist should consider these questions. don't you agree?

That still hasn't been definitively proven. Compare to the large body of water in the ocean, our's is very minuscule in terms of volume. The difference between a large and small magnet multiply the distance.

The only thing I like about a full moon is its beauty and how it twinkles on the water.

There is a zen-like quality of the moon's reflection on water. Calm and meditative.

It's the witches night they say but never saw one on a full moon. I always look forward to staring at the full moon. I get mesmerised by its beauty.

That's one way the moon attracts us. Unless we have a partner at that moment then it is largely ignored.

My mom works in a skilled nursing facility, she always claims the patients there act up during the full moon. They get crazy and do all kinds of weird things. When my brother was a toddler, he used to freak out whenever the moon was full, and would howl "MOON, MOON!!" out the window. It was pretty hilarious.

Thanks to pharmaceutical incentives, US doctors over prescribe and mis-prescribe dosages. Americans are over medicated. Maybe this is one of the reason why patients act the way they do not just during full moon but most of the time.

I would not mind if it was only during a full moon when I become crazy. But there are people who make me crazy all 365 days of the year.

I also saw a full moon at night while celebrating the new year. I think we have beliefs for the new moon but I don't know any now

@josie_ People really believe that a full moon makes people crazy, but just like you wrote in your post, it doesn't. After watching Werewolf in London, when I was young, I still get a little creeped out if I'm out late at night alone on a full moon.

Some wolf's amorous advances can be creepy. Between a Lycan and a vampire, give me the Twilight variety that Bella met any night.
