Would you delegate your work?

We as human being cannot do all the tasks ourselves. Many a times, we need to delegate the work supposed to be executed by us. While at home, if possible, we delegate some work to our family members (including kids/grown up children) so as to help us. At work place, if possible, we delegate some work to our subordinates/ juniors/colleagues so as complete the work. However, some people do not believe in delegation of work, they just want to do all the work themselves. There may be some reasons for it e.g. they do not trust others and doubt that others will not do the work properly. Do you believe in delegation? Would you mind delegating your work either at home or at work place or you would do it yourself?

My husband delegates some works to me, his clients would not appreciate if other people would take care of their matters. You can never be sure how much you can trust people. For some kinds of very private jobs, you cannot delegate.

Your husband apparently delegates his official work to you, which is not liked by his clients. Is it so? Yes, you are right that some of the nature of jobs is such that you cannot delegate those jobs to others.

@LadyDuck Thanks for clarifying. Your husband delegates work of his clients to you and this way clients do not feel any kind of problem because they trust you.

@dpk262006 It's not what I said, I said that his clients would not be happy if he would delegate to a "normal" assistant. They trust me and they know that nothing goes out of our office.

I do delegate work whenever I can. There is no harm in it. At home in fact all the housework has been delegated to my daughter . I have a few colleagues who have problems delegating work to others because they do not trust anyone else to do the work.

It is wiser on your part to delegate work to others, because you just cannot carry all the load. Your daughter sharing the burden with you will definitely help you, as you are a working woman. Yes, in office, some people do not like to delegate work because they doubt about others.

@dpk262006 delegating the housework to my daughter is purely for selfish reasons. I hate doing housework !!!!

@mayka123 It does not matter if the delegation of work has been done for selfish purpose or otherwise, delegation helps you to lessen your burden.

You could request people around you to help you. If there is no one close to you or around you, then it is not possible.

@FayeHazel It means until and unless you are very tired or sick, you won't like to delegate your work because you do not feel like explaining others about a task and how to do it.

@dpk262006 Usually only when I feel overwhelmed, tired or sick. Something like that. Otherwise I don't like to explain to others what needs to be done.

Yes.Delegation is such an important skill, and is one that you absolutely have to learn! Its no big deal that you are highly talented , but you need help and support. There is no such thing as a single-handed success: when you include and acknowledge all those in your support, you propel yourself, your teammates and your supporters to greater heights. Although I fully agree some task does not require delegation.

Yes, it is true that we just cannot do all the work single handedly and we need to delegate some work to lessen our burden. Do you believe in delegating your work either at home or at work place?

@stapllotik It is saner on your part that you believe in delegating work, be it at home or at work place. I hope it lessens your burden.

@dpk262006 yes I fully believe in delegating work. At home you have family ties, at office you need to create a comfortable ambience in order to get effective delivery from your team.

I delegate at home. I've never really been in a position to delegate in the workplace, though! It really depends on the task. At home, my children need to learn to do things and it doesn't usually matter too much if they don't quite get something right the first time. Some things, though, I prefer to do myself because they need to be done a certain way - or done quickly!

It is wiser on your part that you delegate some work to children and other family members. You are very right that children may not do the work to the perfection at the first instance but if they do it regularly, they will get to learn.

In the past I don't like delegating my work for the reason that I don't trust anybody to do it for me. But I knew I had to do it because it was the right thing to do for me or I won't have time for myself anymore. It wasn't easy at first and there was always mistakes coming from the people I delegated my work to. Controlling myself was the most difficult part but eventually, I successfully did it.

Yes, I agree with you that many a times we are apprehensive about ability of others and we hesitate to delegate work to others. It is also true that others just cannot do the work, the way we would do but we just cannot dispose of all the work, therefore, delegation is needed. It is good on your part that you showed courage and determination to delegate your work to others to lessen your burden.

I am an organized person and I do delegate some tasks to others, either at home or at work. We are not superheroes do all the tasks in one setting. It is better to incorporate teamwork.

It is wiser on your part that you do not hesitate to delegate a part of your work to others, either it is at home or at work. We are not superheroes, you have rightly pointed out and taking all the load is not a sane thing. PS - Is it you in the profile picture?

Nice to know that you are the Commander of House and you do not mind delegating house work to your dear husband. It is good that he helps you willingly and without any fuss.

May be sometimes we need help of others. But I believe that if we want the things done as the way we really want, we should do it by ourselves. I normally do everything by my self and rarely delegate or ask for help

You are very correct we have to share some of our jobs to other fellow workers. In this way I think we can be more productive and also free of work pressures. But my spouse also shares some jobs.

Thanks for agreeing with me that work is needed to be shared or delegated so as to come out with better result. Single person carrying out all the tasks could be troublesome for the person itself and for others. It is good to know that your spouse is considerate and he shares work with you.

Yes especially when the work load is too much then you really need to delegate. Sometimes, though, I'd prefer not to if I know that my partners will not do a good job and I would be just rechecking and redoing all the work.

Yes, you are right that to lessen our burden, we need to delegate our work, else we will find ourselves in trouble. It is also correct that others cannot do the job, the way we do but we need to accommodate them.

I delegate lots of chores to Vince but usually end up doing many of them myself. However, joking aside, it is a great skill to be able to delegate.
