Is it too soon to make 2018 goals?

Nairobi, Kenya

Everyone keeps asking about somebody else's 2018 resolutions. I feel it is too soon to make 2018 goals. I haven't even settled in 2018 since my mind is back in 2017 and most discussions I get involved in are still about 2017. Most people in my country are preparing their children for school. I feel it is in February that most people will be fully settled so they can make 2018 goals. As for me, I will be making 2018 goals in March or April hopefully.

My goals are not out of the ordinary so I know them already, same as I have been working towards so nothing new here. I get that some need to take their time with it thou.

@mildredtabitha I'm hoping to have the goal of finishing the house done in at least two years.

That is understandable since not all goals are yearly based. I also have some old goals that haven't been achieved

@mildredtabitha sometimes. For example recently I limited my soda intake. My goal is to drink only one soda per day.

@Madshadi My 2016 goal was to avoid soda. I didn't have any soda completely for 2 years. I took half a cup of soda last week because of the new passion flavor but I am still following my rule

I think that is better since you won't have to worry about getting something fulfilled. So why do you never set goals?

It is entirely up to you to set up your goals, there is no fixed time line or month fixed for it.

I dont understand why people ask this, is it a fashion or just go with the flow type. I dont think its necessary to make resolutions ,,everyday is a struggle

I also wonder too why it is a "thing" to ask about new year's resolution. It gives people pressure to make unrealistic goals so they can have a good answer.

Thanks for mentioning this. Yeah... It's never too late unless the year is over and you have to make a resolution the following year. I think people who don't make resolutions are so satisfied and happy with their current life...

Not sure much about making goals. But I do plan to exercise and try to loose weight again which I failed last year.

"Everyone keeps asking . . . " One should be careful with generalisations. Nobody has ever asked me and I have never asked anybody about their goals. Why put oneself under pressure by setting goals? Do you check your list in December and are you happy or unhappy depending on what you have achieved or not? I think you should relax and take things as they come.

@mildredtabitha I thought so. So what is such a list for?

@MALUSE I never make lists in the first place unless it's a shopping list.

Thanks for the correction and sharing your opinion. I rarely check my list on December

New year's resolutions don't seem to last very long.

Very true. But when the year gets old, people can start making realistic goals. I think most people are obliged to make new year's goal because of the excitement for the new year.

You are right. I think the excitement for new year can make us rush into making goals. But taking our time to identify the right ones will help
