Yesterday I observed inside the department store the long lines infront of the cashier to pay for their shopping. There's are still traffic inside the department store. Which means people are still rich after the celebration of Christmas day and New Year's day. This is the case two years ago when the stores are almost empty in the first week of the ywar. Maybe the economy in my country is indeed getting better. Or they are just preparing for the implementation of tax reform law that will raise the prices of the commodities?

The prices may be high but I think our economy is improving a lot, but of course we're still left behind by other countries.

Some people would say that and some people would also attest to the getting better in economy.

The only store I ever go to is the grocery store and there people are spending as usual not too much and not too little.

If prices are going up, it's a good time to shop before they do.

Maybe this is the reason there are so many people in the store, they're expecting the price hike of prime commodities

I think it was only during GMA's regime that life was too difficult I could hardly find anyone shopping anymore. But from the time of PNoy until now, people in my city eat out most of the time and shop most of the time. Malls were crowded during weekends and on regular and special non-working holidays.

We have the same observation, and now even after new year there's traffic inside the malls and department stores.

Or may be you are correct, they are buying the things they need that will hit the tax law.

At my place, parents are preparing for their children's back to school expenses. Many people spend on Christmas and forget there is fees to pay come January. But people are financially educated nowadays and so they spend wisely knowing that there are expenses in new year.

no, i don't think people are still 'rich' after the holidays. it does not also mean that we get poorer after the holidays because we spend much. i think their budget for the holidays are not yet all spent so they are doing that especially if they received their 13th month pay or bonus. of course too, they must save some amount for emergency purposes.
