I pulled a MacGyver this morning!

Silly but I took care of an issue that could have easily ballooned into a huge disaster. It is slick out this morning. I did get my dearest to work then bought dog food and chicken chow at the feed store then bought groceries. Home to discover that the deck steps were still slick. Slick as in I could easily fall backward and hit the concrete walk. Me all alone except for critters. I got some of the heavy grocery bags up the steps then said no on heading back down those slippery steps. I'd better wait an hour and see if things warm up. Then I thought of the long handled garden rake/hoe gizmo that I'd left up on the deck. Well, its worth a shot. I stood on the part of the deck that wasn't slippery, extended the 8 foot garden tool down and down to the first bag of groceries and hooked the tines into the bag's handle. Up she went! That bag sailing through the air would have made a rather silly video moment. Thank God those wimpy bag handles held. All the tempting freezer items like ravioli and vegie pattys are in the freezer now and I am safe and maybe sane.

@much2say Thanks. I hate the feeling of my feet slipping and then the bags are heavy enough to throw me off worse.

Good for you! I never watched MacGyver, but understood the inference immediately. Even if I didn't, I'd never be rude about it.

@DianneN Oh thank you. I am not tone deaf after all. I just wasn't quite sure how to put it. You did great. I appreciate it.

@DianneN Oh you got me on the temperatures. I am not great at explaining stuff like that. Good on you for giving it a go. Thanks for the laugh about the stern prof. I remember those stuffy dudes.

@sallypup You are more than welcome. I see it too often. It's just not being compassionate or kind. We all do our best to write discussions. It shouldn't have to be similar to a college classroom with a stern professor critiquing everyone. By the way, I used both Fahrenheit and Celsius today and never received a comment. I'm returning to using Fahrenheit.

Sometimes, you gotta do what you gotta do..I may have to go to the car later..and I may put some real boots on..I have fallen on those stairs a few times.over the years.and it is not fun. I am exceedingly lucky I never broke anything..However, I have had some major bruises.

You need to get a pig and teach it to go out to the road and find someone. There was a story somewhere about a lady who had a stroke and had fallen. Her pet pig kept going out to the road and setting in the middle until she got someone to come to her owner's aid. Great story.

@sallypup .....Yes, I sure do. I think some animals and humans have a link like some humans do.

@celticeagle I'm with you on that one. When I was a teenager a small dog saved me from a raging bull.

@celticeagle I love your story. Kind of like a Lassie pig- remember good old Lassie, how she'd rescue Timmy from the well and probably a rabid tiger etc etc.

@1creekgirl I know. The paper bag of mushrooms kept trying to fall apart. Sure irritating then but funny now.

You were good at solving that problem. Do you have rock salt to put on the deck.

Its five steps then I have to walk across about 12 feet to the house door once I get up those steps. I can't throw bags that far. My deck is the size of a small room.
