The Gray Crowned Crane is a beautiful bird whose habitat includes at least ten countries in Africa. This bird is the National Bird of Uganda and is also featured on their flag. The mating pair is monogamous for life, and do everything together. They perform mating rituals with dancing and singing (it's so cute and sweet), build nests together, take turns sitting on the eggs, and preen each other every night after flying up to roost in a tree (once the chick is grown) for the night. Loss of habitats, including wetlands and grasslands, and problems caused by The Crane Trade, who steal the birds from their natural habitats, contribute to the dwindling number of Cranes in existence. Their population went from 100,000 mature birds in the 1980's to around 20,000 mature birds today. That is a huge loss in such a short time. If it wasn't for the 7 BILLION people on this planet taking up all the room, the critters would still be around @misunderstood_zombie . We've lost so many species it isn't even funny.

@nanette64 It would be nice if we could reduce the population, but I don't believe anyone in power should ever have that kind of power to decide for us. I had four kids, so I guess I've contributed to this problem as much as anybody else.

Thank you, I think we should all be aware about endangered species, but at the same time it's quite depressing.
