Time to Get it Finished!

Yesterday I finished assembling a quilt top....now it's time to finish a quilt that has been in progress for a couple of months. Procrastination has been my middle name. I mounted this one on the frame and then abandoned it for a week or two. Then spent a day or two working on it before abandoning it again. Progress has been slow. I've made three quilt tops and numerous American Girl doll outfits, knowing that this quilt was awaiting me. This time I'm going to finish it. Hopefully the quilting will be done by the end of this week. (Time to set another goal!). Once the quilt has been finished the frame will be packed for the move. I think I might want to take it with me in February. Who knows how many of the I quilted tops might be assembled before I make the westward journey again in time for Easter. My fingers are showing some serious signs of wear and tear as I quilt away!

I am procrastinating now, I know there are things that need my attention, but I am not in the mood to do anything.

Give yourself time. Two years ago when my mother passed away I went through a period when I had no desire to do anything.

Hopefully you'll have those fingers toughened up before you finish the quilt, that will make things easier on you.

They are getting tougher. They were well callused this fall and then I tackled other interests. Now we get to rebuild those calluses.

I love the decorative design stitches on the quilt. Is it all done by a machine or is some seen by hand?

The quilting on this quilt is all done by hand. That's why my fingers are a bit sore.

@Morleyhunt oh my gosh wow that would take so long. Your stitching looks like a machine it is so good I am really impressed. I was thinking how hard it would be with all that fabric to do it in a machine.

@shaggin I've done some on my machine. I'm happier with it when I've done it by hand. In February I have a date to use a long arm quilting machine for a day. That day I hope to quilt an entire queen size quilt. More information will be shared when that day approaches

I need to get back to the sock I started knitting on Wednesday. I have been crocheting hats instead. Procrastination can be good and bad. Depends on what it is that a person is putting off to do until later on.

I have a wedding dress I need to shorten. I've been putting it off because I dread unpicking the lace from the delicate chiffon. I think today I might just need to do that particular job.

I must say striving for perfection is your middle name.Your fingers really "suffer" to do so much quilting.

@Morleyhunt You have had the quilting down to a fine art, brides are likely to beat a path to your door.

This morning I quilted for an hour. Right now I'm unpicking the lace from the chiffon layer of a wedding gown so I can hem it for the bride.

I find quilting to be relaxing. I listen to a book on CD and quilt while the disc plays. Then it's time to do something more active for an hour. This gives my fingers and eyes a break.

You'll finish that project soon enough. Might be a good time to give your fingers a rest after finishing this project.

Even now I am procrastinating, sort of waiting to see if the storm will arrive. The wind and brooding air outside makes it very likely that tomorrow I'll be shovelling again,

We all have our priorities. Quilting is my stress reliever. Even a few minutes of sewing (or quilting) seems to reduce my stress levels.

Thank you. This is a string quilt. I've made several using up scraps. This one was tamed by adding sashing. Of the four string quilts I've made...this is my favourite.

I enjoy it...one of my daughters tried it. She found it stressful. She loves to work with paper. I'm not offended that she has a different hobby.

The first and second finger of my left hand are looking a tad raw. The calluses are getting harder...the quilting getting easier.
