Organizing Creates a Mess

So many things in my house need organizing but I'm going to work on one project at a time rather than a little here and a little there. Maybe working on one project will result in it getting done if I can stick to my plan. I have a tendency to jump from one thing to another. Yesterday we started taking down the last of the Christmas decorations and wound up rearranging the living room. All the decorations are now piled on my dining room table until we bring in the storage crates from the garage. We were supposed to bring in the crates but got sidetracked by moving around the furniture. Once that gets done today my big project is my desk. For some reason it gathers stuff that doesn't have a home. Things get pushed into the drawers, I can't find a pen or the tape etc. It doesn't give me a very good work space when it's cluttered for working on the computer, paying bills etc. I got two very nice deck organizers for Christmas and it's going to be nice when my deck is organized and finished. In the meantime, I'll have to take everything out and off my desk and put it all back in an organized fashion. Do you find organizing makes a mess before your project is finished?

Yes, absolutely, I make a big mess before my project is finished, but after it's great.

@Marilynda1225 The garage and the garden shed are my projects. We have a mezzanine in the garage and it's full of old boxes and stuff we do not need anymore.

My focus for this new year is to get very organized. My house isn't a mess except the Christmas stuff is all over the dining room ready to be put away. I have a few projects set up to organize (my closet, the garage, the basement)

I sure do. It seems the more I try to get organized in one area, the more another area gets piled up.

@Marilynda1225 I end up feeling the same way. But then, when it is all done I am so happy I did it.

Yes, I make a huge mess when I re-organize and wonder why did I start this? But in the end, it is all worth it! Good Luck

Yes organizing does make a bigger mess before it is all finished. As we take things out to sort they are all over the place. It feels good at the end to have everything all tidied up though afterwards.

Yes, What I really don't like is trying to figure out what to do with certain things. I have simply got to clean out my "junk drawer" I could probably ruthlessly pitch most of what is in there..but I hate to..Even though I have "organized" this before it pretty much needs to be emptied..sigh.

I agree with you. Things tend to change importance in my mind and I leave them half done.

I think that having a game plan is the biggest step to getting a project done.

Haha yes of course and the trouble is when you are trying to tidy you find things that you get engrossed in and end up not finishing what you started!

@Marilynda1225 I like when the mess starts showing order. That gives me the incentive to get it finished.

I tend to graze when I organize. I must get distracted easily. I start with one task which leads to the next...and the next and suddenly everything is turned upside down. Today I am tackling the wedding gown I've been putting off. So far the work is going smoothly...unpicking lace off chiffon is tedious...that's the reason I've been procrastinating.

It does sound a bit tedious taking lace off chiffon. Guess you have to be careful not to tear the chiffon as you go along. I tend to get distracted too as I do things. I might start with something and wind up in an entirely different room doing something else.

I have a lot of things To be organized in my house too, but with an offline job, two small kids, house chores, laundry, cook and online work my time is really short but I try To work in one project at the time.

Yes, organizing can make a bigger mess for a while but when it is done and finished, it all looks so good, at least for a few days.

My desk is a "catch all" for everything and then I push things into the drawers to keep it from looking so messy. Now I can't find anything

@Marilynda1225 My sewing machine table is like that. It has ALL my art stuff on it. So much so that I cant even sew right now.

Organizing my desk feels better. Though at night time I generally do that.Work apace is important so I make sure it is less messy and clean.
