I read this just this morning and just had to share it. But my door bell rang and a friend stopped by for a visit. She brought lunch from Panera's and left just a few minutes ago. In the 10th century, there was a Persian ruler named Abdul Kassem Ismael (938-995). Whenever he traveled anywhere, he always took his library of 117,000 books with him. The books were carried by a caravan of camels, who were trained to walk in alphabetical order. Can you imagine?

I guess the guy was never stuck for a book to read then. Maybe books were very valuable and it was a display of wealth?

Nope, I cannot imagine that. I would have a good reason to keep some of my memorable belonging and find a way to ship them to the U.S. once I am ready to leave here but I don't even want to do that if I can avoid it. So carrying around that many books no way. I probably will also give away my books and when I get to the states I'll get a library card.

I have a lot of books too and need to get rid of most of them. I'm not planning to move ever but I really wish that there was one of those neighborhood book exchange places around here. I think it's such a great idea.

Yeah. That would have worked maybe. Some books are very valuable though.
