Good afternoon.Last night was a horror. Mike and I been smelling smoke. No detector went off. The smell was getting worse.I was in a shamble. The wood stove was so full there and cause this. This is our first time with this. We stayed up most of the night. He went out door looking around and saw nothing. only one thing to do is clean out the stove. Step by step.I told him to call the fire dept to check this out. But he did not want.He took out some of the ashes. The coal were so huge and must have cause blockage there. We stayed up and baby sit the stove. Clean out more ashes.Wait awhile and more. My blood pressure must have hit the roof. After a couple of hours.Things quiet down. Still he should have call. Today no fire.He clean the stove and pipes things look okay. we had too much coal there .Right now the way I feel could care less to see another fire in the stove. But will not happen. finally around midnight we went to bed and things were okay. It was very scary.

That certainly sounds scary and glad that Mike got the stove cleaned out and you didn't have a disaster on your hands.

As much as I like the idea of a fireplace or a wood stove, I think that they would make me too nervous.

I'm glad everything turned out OK. I just wouldn't trust myself not to set my house on fire if I had a wood stove.

@amadeo Yes, I can imagine the temptation is there to throw more and more into the stove to keep the heat up!!

@DianneN.It was not the chimney. We let the coals to high there. It was choking and not breathing.the chimney is fine

That sure does sound scary and so many fires because of woodstoves and chimney's lately. Glad you investigated and were able to keep it under control and didn't turn out worse.

Scary indeed. I’m terrified of fire. That’s why I don’t have a wood-burning stove or a fireplace.

That sounds pretty terrifying to me. We used to live in a home that had a wood stove and they could present quite a danger if not properly maintained. I don't blame you for not wanting another fire after that.

How scary! Good that Mike took action and the stuffed coals were the culprit. I've never had to deal with wood stoves!

I know what you are going through just a few weeks ago our next door neighbor had a fire inside his shed before he was alerted to douse the flames in his shed which he did quickly.
