Ice Fishing Started on Tawas Lake

Since we've had so much cold weather in this area, the ice on Tawas Lake has become extremely thick. Now, we have ice fishermen who are putting up their own personal ice shanties and some of them even drive their vehicles out to where they've chosen to fish. First they use an auger to bore a nice sized hole through the ice and then drop their lines down into the icy waters of Tawas Lake, to catch some fish. I spoke with a fisherman, who was finally calling it quits for the day. I asked him if they were having any luck and his reply was, 'No, we're not catching any today, but tomorrow I will be back to get 'em!' With that kind of determination, he will surely be able to fill those buckets, tomorrow

I've got a friend that's been playing hockey the last few days here on a lake...personally I wouldn't trust it yet in my area

@JolietJake I can't believe those people actually drive their vehicles out on that ice! Many have fallen through, at least one every single year:(

Myself, I don't walk out very far, on a frozen lake. It's too risky, for me!

Difficult to fish, in a frozen lake! However, fishing is not a sport, which I like

They use a sharp auger, cut a hole in the ice, and start fishing. Myself, I'm not into fishing, at all.

@kobesbuddy Same for me. I prefer, let the fish live in the sea, quietly!

Since here in most parts of Africa we do not experience snow, I may not relate to that but I would think it is quite a task

@kobesbuddy I always thought it was very unique to go ice fishing. I watched a fishing show one time, what their little shacks look like on the inside, and they were cooking in there. The whole thing is kind of strange and amazing.

@kobesbuddy The first time I heard about it was when a local station in New Orleans that was covering a Super Bowl in Minneapolis said that ice fishing is very popular in the colder climates.

What a bunch of idiots! LOL It's one thing to drive a 3,000 pound vehicle out onto ice but to park that much weight so close together in one area is just asking for trouble.

These fishermen bundle up, like they're heading into the Arctic Circle. They dress very warm, cover their faces, except for the eyes. It's a fun sport, for anyone who loves to fish

No ice fishing around here, what ice we have on local lakes at the moment is rapidly melting and is a bit of an anomaly to begin with.
