Christmas Lives On

Even though Christmas has been over for two weeks already, it seems as if the Christmas spirit lives on in my neighborhood. When I took the dogs out a little while ago I noticed that many of my neighbors not only still have their outside lights and decorations up but they have them lit. My daughter and I struggled to get outside lights taken down over the weekend in spite of the freezing cold weather. We practically froze our fingers off with this task but I see some of my neighbors didn't bite the bullet. I know our HOA has specific rules for how long outside decorations can be up but I know it's past the time for lighting their lights. Wonder if everyone will get a pass because of the weather or will the HOA enforce the rules. Should be interesting to see how many lights are still lit in the next few days. For me, I'm still enjoying how festive they look

I'd hate to live somewhere where someone else can tell you what you can do with your home. I think all the lights round us have been taken down by now.

Same here, even though the weather is always warm here. I love seeing the lights! I once left mine up and lit them at night until April. They were just blue lights with not snowmen or lawn ornaments so it wasn't like Christmas after the season was gone. The neighbors enjoyed them, too!

I do love the lights and would have no objection to anyone lighting them year round. Some of my neighbors had blue lights this year and they did look pretty

Our next door neighbor leaves her lights on the house all year round. They seem to turn them on when they are having guests - the lights are all white, so I guess that's ok even if it's not Christmas. I did notice one house down the street still has their full on Christmas lights going on there!

One of my neighbors has the pine tree on his lawn still all lit and decorated. I agree with the white lights as they do look pretty when lit and not necessarily reflect Christmas

Some people keep their houses lit thru march and beyond, especially if they had a good year.

In the heart of the city the lights decorated centennial trees are still being lit at night but homes are no longer doing this.

So there are rules about how long lights can be kept up on one's private property?

Yes according to our bylaws we have certain rules to follow. Most of them are reasonable though

I hope they get a pass because of how cold it's been. I'm a Scrooge I won't even put any lights up. My neighbors still have their lights up and turned on as well

Maybe they still want to feel the Christmas spirit. We take decorations out after New Year's day. I see neighbors having their decorations up too at this time

That is the reason I would not want to live where they have HOA rules.

I still need to take my lights down from my balcony. I don't turn them on at night anymore though. I will be taking down all my holiday stuff later today.

I think most of them left the deco since it is freezing out there

We put our Christmas decors back to the storage box late January.

My decorations are all put away now and, what with being away for a few days recently, it seems Christmas is long gone.

We still have our tree up (its fake). And still light it at night. But dont ever do outsides lights.. and if we did they would've been down January 1st.
