Learning to Swim--Day 10

Although it's been a month since I had my last swim lesson with Rachael, today I've returned to the gym in the middle of the winter break with crazy winter weather. Today was mild in the 50s and this afternoon, it was raining at 50-70% this afternoon. I've worn my poncho and zipped my phone in my purse without the need of a baggie. My gym bag had a plastic enclosed front pocket. Lo and behold, I thought my new instructor's name was Kate. It turned out to be Paige, someone I know. She was my substitute water aerobics instructor on Fridays for about a year, when my regular substitute instructor had shoren her work week, due to a move and traffic in winter weather. I've seen her from time to time on holidays, until she started working as a permanent substitute teacher for a bunch of local schools this past fall. So I was happy to see her, s though. Since the swim team occupied the lap pools, and will be doing so for the next couple of weeks, I was glad to be back in the leisure laps. (She also knows that I don't walk in the winter, too. So in case it's snowing real bad and real cold or don't feel well, I'll text her.) I've told her what Rachael and I worked on, and that I'm learning how to swim for exercise in the intermediate level. I've told her that my frontstroke needs to be refined a bit, since I can almost swim a full lap in the leisu. And when I showed her, I've made it a bit past the 50 meter mark both ways. Due to a stiff back, it had prevented me to get that far today. I also need to work more on my breathing, which we did practice in the pool like I did with Rachel last year. Then I did one lap with the elementary and regular back stroke and had no problems with it. Since I haven't learned the breast stroke yet, she's going to teach me that next week at 4 PM, my new time, since she needs to leave from the schools in Stow to make it back home to teach me. On a side note, I did text Rachael on Tuesday to let her know about my new swim lessons and that I hoped to nail the front stroke. She said it was exciting, I can do it and it just takes practice. I've texted her just now to let her know, it didn't happen today. Maybe next week or next month... Next Tuesday, it would be cold at 20 degrees...

We are trying to convince one of my relatives to learn swimming (my kid promised to teach her) but we haven't been successful so far. It is costly here, the entrance fee, so it is OK, I don't mind .

Wonderful that you returned. That's great you happened to already know the instructor. It was 51° F here today so the puppy and I took a walk.

Thank you. I hope to nail the front stroke next month. Yeah it was. I've heard back from her. Rachel said to keep working hard, and I will get it.

Getting into the pool was like climbing back on that bike.

@just4him I would have to be brave and face the cold. It's doable, but too cold at 14 degrees next Tuesday and 25 next Thursday.

@KristenH Can't do anything about that. I hope you'll be able to go for your future lessons.

I leaned early, but it's good that you are learning now.
